Life situation of families with children with autism spectrum disorders in context of social functioning

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá zkušenosti rodin s dětmi s PAS s jejich sociálním fungováním v rámci životní situace. Cílem výzkumu je snaha o porozumění osobním žitým zkušenostem rodin. V teoretické části práce jsou vymezeny základní pojmy: PAS, rodina s dítětem s PAS, životní situace a sociální fungování. Výzkum je realizován pomocí kvalitativní strategie a je založen na fenomenologické podstatě. Za účelem sběru výzkumných dat byly realizovány hloubkové rozhovory s matkami dětí s PAS. Data byla následně zpracována metodou interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy a po převedení do narativní podoby tvoří případové studie popisující zkušenosti jednotlivých rodin. Výsledkem je zjištění, že rodiny vnímají jako bariéru v sociálním fungování nedostatek podpory ze strany prostředí (zejména chybějící podpora rodin ze strany odborníků, nedostatek informací o možnostech pomoci, nízká dostupnost sociálních služeb, vysoké finanční náklady a nízká informovanost společnosti). Podporu v sociálním fungování rodiny čerpají zejména ze svých sociálních zdrojů (rodina, přátelé), ze sociálního systému (příspěvek na péči, služba rané péče) a díky terapeutickým přístupům (zejména Son Rise).

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the experience of families with children with ASD with their social functioning in the context of the life situation. The aim of the thesis is to understand the personal lived experience of families. In the theoretical part of the thesis are defined the basic concepts: ASD, family with child with ASD, life situation and social functioning. The research is realized through qualitative strategy and it is based on phenomenological foundation. In-depth interviews with mothers of children with ASD were realized for the purpose of collecting research information. Interviews were analyzed with interpretative phenomenological analysis and they were transfered into narrative form. There are case studies that describe the experience of the families. The result of the thesis is finding that families realize barrier in the social functioning in lack of support from environment (especially lack of support by professionals, lack of information about various possibilities of assistance, low availability of social services, high financial expenses and low awareness of society). Support for family draws mainly on their social resources (family, friends), the social system (care allowance, early intervention centre) and therapeutic approaches (especially Son Rise).
