Social services focused on the support to the informal carers of the elderly with dementia

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na zkoumání služeb zaměřených na podporu osob pečujících v domácím prostředí o seniora postiženého demencí. Cílem práce je zodpovězení otázky: “Jak jsou pozitivní aspekty péče o seniora s demencí v domácím prostředí zohledňovány v sociálních službách zaměřených na podporu pečujících osob?” V první části práce jsem vymezila teoretické koncepty potřebné pro její zodpovězení: rodinná péče, vývoj a soudobé trendy ve vnímání podpory seniorů a pečujících osob, a pozitivní aspekty péče poskytované blízké osobě trpící demencí. K zodpovězení základní výzkumné otázky byla zvolena kvalitativní strategie výzkumu ve formě rozhovoru s návodem realizovaného s pracovníky odlehčovacích služeb v městě Brně, doplňující technikou byla analýza dokumentů těchto služeb. Ze zjištěných dat docházím k závěru, že zohledňování pozitivních aspektů v koncepci i realizaci zkoumaných služeb je na nízké úrovni, cíleně a koncepčně jsou do realizace služby zahrnuty pouze v jedné službě. Ve zbývajících službách u pracovníků převažuje vnímání péče převážně skrze její negativní dopady na pečujícího a podpora pečujících je omezena na intervence zaměřené na redukci negativních dopadů péče. Podstatným zjištěním (na něž nebyl výzkum zacílen, ale bylo implicitně i explicitně obsaženo ve výpovědích pracovníků), je fakt, že legislativní úprava odlehčovacích služeb obsahuje základní nesoulad v cíli služby (podpora pečujícího) a cílové skupině (příjemce péče), což výrazně omezuje samotnou možnost zaměřit službu na podporu pečujících.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with analyzing services focused on the support of individuals who are in charge of home care for seniors with dementia. The purpose of the diploma thesis is to find out how positive aspects of home care for seniors with dementia are reflected in social services aimed at the support of caregivers. The first part of the thesis covers the following theoretical concepts the comprehension of which is crucial for finding the answer to the above-mentioned question: family care, development and contemporary trends in the perception of support of seniors and caregivers, and positive aspects of caregiving for close family members suffering dementia. The basic research question is answered by means of qualitative research strategy employing the form of an interview coordinated through councelling of respite care workers based in the city of Brno. As a supplementary method was used the analysis of local respite care documentation. As a result of the findings, I have drawn a conclusion that positive aspects reflected both in the conception and the implementation of the examined services are not given due regard. They are intentionally and conceptually included in service implementation in not more than one service. In the remaining services, workers perceive caregiving predominantly through its negative impacts on a carer. Besides, support of carers is restricted to interventions aimed only at reducing negative impacts of caregiving. My research has brought significant findings which were unintentionally received through implicit and explicit responses of the workers and which prove that respite care legislation shows signs of fundamental discrepancies between the objective of a service (support of a carer) and the target group (care receiver). As a consequence, there are grave limits to the possibility of aiming the service at the support of carers.
