It´s gonna end up halfway. Etnography of Growing Up of Marginalized Girls in the Age of Responsibility.

Abstract:

Disertační práce rozvíjí téma strukturálních bariér a snah o emancipaci mladých marginalizovaných dívek. Proces snah o vertikální sociální mobilitu je sledován obousměrně, a to v tom smyslu, že se badatelka zaměřuje na vnější i vnitřní příčiny marginality. Přičemž stěžejním výzkumným zájmem předkládané práce je prezentace analýzy konkrétních bariér, které zamezují mladým dívkám z marginalizovaného prostředí ve vertikální sociální mobilitě a v plné participaci na běžných společenských zdrojích. Badatelka identifikovala čtyři stěžejní bariéry: prostředí vzdělávání, dluhy, státní sociální pomoc a partnerský život, resp. partnerské násilí. Přičemž strukturálními bariérami jsou první tři, domácí násilí je bariérou vnitřní, i když může být vykládáno jako důsledek širších strukturálních podmínek. Bádání disertační práce bylo prováděno s ohledem na fenomény transformací západních (sociálních) systémů od 80. let 20. století. Tato transformace, mnohými označována jako neoliberální revoluce, způsobila přeměnu vnímání sociálních problémů a zavedla nové společenské a vládní paradigma. Na základě upřednostňování ekonomických aspektů fungování společnosti, nad aspekty sociálními, jsme vedeni k individualismu, kompetici, přílišné responzibilitě, konzumerizmu a relačnímu nezájmu. Nahlížet oblasti veřejného zájmu z finančního pohledu, který se tváří expertně, spíše než ze sociálního pohledu, prakticky znemožňuje prosazovat cíle sociální spravedlnosti, rovnosti, boje s chudobou, společenské koheze a další. Výzkum je tedy zasazen do širších diskurzivních a strukturálních podmínek, které se na lokální úrovni manifestují jako tzv. directing system. Directing system je vykládán jako jakási (pod)strukturální sféra lokálních institucí, reprezentována základními a středními školami, úřady práce, praktickou politikou, institucionálními věřiteli, exekutory/exekutrokami, advokáty/advokátkami a dalšími, kteří přímo i nepřímo ovlivňují životy marginalizovaných aktérek. Badatelka sledovala praktiky a jazyk těchto institucí a jejich představitelů a představitelek, v nichž se uplatňoval sledovaný neoliberální diskurz. Motivací předkládané práce je totiž prezentace poznatků v komplementární podobě. Práce usiluje o propojení dat z etnografického pozorování, diskurzivní analýzy a z rozhovorů s participantkami tak, aby se data vzájemně doplňovala. Samotná analýza diskurzu directing system neozřejmuje, jaký efekt má smýšlení a jednání jeho reprezentantů/reprezentantek v praxi, a výpovědi a zkušenosti participantek je zase třeba kontextuálně ukotvit. Akademická role badatelky a profesní role sociální pracovnice tak umožňuje autorce práce obě zmíněné motivace propojit a zabývat se jimi jak analyticky, tak prakticky.

Abstract:

The doctoral thesis develops the theme of structural barriers and efforts of emancipation of young marginalized girls. The process of striving for vertical social mobility is traced in both directions, in the sense that the researcher focuses both on external and internal causes of marginality. In doing so, the main research interest of the thesis is to present an analysis of the specific barriers that prevent young girls from marginalized backgrounds from vertical social mobility and full participation in common social resources. The researcher has identified four key barriers: educational environment, debts, state social support and partner life, more specifically partner violence. While the first three barriers are structural, partner violence is seen as an internal barrier, but can also be interpreted as a consequence of broader structural conditions. The dissertation research was conducted with respect to the phenomena of transformations of Western (social) systems since the 1980s. This transformation, referred to by many as the neoliberal revolution, has caused a transformation in the perception of social problems and introduced a new social and governmental paradigm. Based on the prioritization of the economic aspects of society's functioning over the social, it leads us to individualism, competition, excessive responsibility, consumerism and relational disinterest. Understanding areas of public interest from a financial perspective, which also appears to be an expert perspective, rather than from a social perspective, makes it virtually impossible to promote the objectives of social justice, equality, social cohesion, the fight against poverty and other objectives. The research is therefore situated in broader discursive and structural conditions that manifest themselves at the local level as the so-called directing system. Directing system is interpreted as a kind of (sub)structural sphere of local institutions, represented by primary and secondary schools, labour offices, practical politics, institutional creditors, lawyers and others who directly and indirectly influence the lives of marginalized actors. The researcher observed the practices and language of these institutions and their representatives in which the observed neoliberal discourse was applied. The motivation of the presented work is to present the findings in a complementary form. The thesis seeks to link data from ethnographic observation, discursive analysis and interviews with female participants in a way that is complementary. The analysis of the discourse of the directing system alone will not reveal the influence of the thinking and actions of its representatives in practice, and the participants ' accounts and experiences need to be contextually anchored. The academic role of a researcher and the professional role of a social worker allow the author of the thesis to connect both of these motivations and deal with them analytically as well as practically.
