Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá rozdíly ve schopnosti studentů anglického jazyka rozpoznat výslovnostní chyby v angličtině v závislosti na čase, který studiu věnují. Soustředí se na české studenty angličtiny na základních a středních školách. Cílem práce je odpovědět na otázku, zda se citlivost na výslovnostní chyby v angličtině zlepšuje úměrně času, který studiu věnují přímo, např. během hodin anglického jazyka ve škole, či nepřímo, např. sledováním filmů v angličtině nebo čtením knih. Teoretická část představuje současný stav učení jazyků v České republice a způsoby učení jazyků. Soustředí se na způsoby dostupné v České republice. Zároveň uvádí několik aspektů anglické výslovnosti a fonetiky, včetně hlásek, na které se tato diplomová práce soustředí. Praktická část popisuje provedený výzkum, který je založen na odpovědích pěti studentů anglického jazyka, kteří poslouchali tři nahrávky – dvě obsahující výslovnostní chyby, jednu správnou. Jejich odpovědi jsou pak analyzovány a porovnávány za cílem odpovědět na hlavní otázku.

Abstract:

The present thesis investigates the differences in the learners’ ability to detect English pronunciation mistakes in connection with the time they devote to learning the language. It focuses on Czech learners of English in primary and secondary schools. The objective of the work is to ascertain the answer to the question whether the sensitivity of the learners to English pronunciation mistakes improves proportionately to the amount of time which the respondents devote to improving their language skills – directly, e.g. during English classes at school; and indirectly, e.g. by watching English-speaking films or reading books. The theoretical part states the current situation of language learning in the Czech Republic and lists various ways of learning languages. It focuses on the ways available in the Czech Republic. It also introduces some of the aspects of English pronunciation and phonetics, as well as the concrete sounds this thesis is concerned with. The practical part describes the conducted research which is based on the answers of five Czech learners of English who listened to three English recordings – two of them containing pronunciation mistakes, one of them completely correct. Their answers are analysed and compared in order to answer the main question.
