Narration in TED Talks from the point of view of adult education

Abstract:

Předložená práce se zaměřuje na téma role narativního vzdělávání a učení se dospělých. Narativní vzdělávání svými metodami dává smysl zkušenostem a pomáhá zvyšovat efektivitu vzdělávání, přesto je u nás spíše začínajícím trendem v oblasti vzdělávání dospělých bez ucelenější metodiky. Tato práce v teoretické části sjednocuje dostupné informace o využívaných metodách narativního vzdělávání dospělých, popisuje a rozebírá úlohu a způsoby využití příběhu (narace). Cílem práce je zjistit rozdíl mezi využíváním znaků narace ve vybraném vzorku nejvíce a nejméně sledovaných řečnických vystoupení organizace TED, jejíž koncepce zvyšuje zájem o vzdělávání šířením inspirativních myšlenek širokému diváckému spektru. Vybraný vzorek vystoupení je zde analyzován a srovnáván prostřednictvím kvantitativní obsahové analýzy, která zkoumá četnost výskytu jednotlivých znaků narací v prezentovaných příspěvcích, výskyt hlavního znaku narace – příběhu a fáze jeho využití ve struktuře přednášky. Výsledkem empirické části práce je zjištění, v čem spočívá rozdíl mezi využitím znaků narace v řečnických vystoupeních TED a zda souvisí s výší sledovanosti těchto vystoupení, která jsou v této práci považována za prostředek narativního vzdělávání ve formě vyprávění.

Abstract:

The presented thesis is focused on the role of narrative education and adult learning. Narrative education with its methods makes sense of experience and helps to increase the effectiveness of education, yet in our country it is rather a beginning trend in the field of adult education without a more comprehensive methodology. In the theoretical part, this work unifies the available information about the used methods of narrative adult education, describes and analyzes the role and ways of using the story (narration). The aim of the thesis is to find out the difference between the use of narrative features in a selected sample of the most and least watched speeches of the organization TED, whose concept increases the interest in education by spreading inspirational ideas to a wide audience. The selected sample of performances is analyzed and compared through quantitative content analysis, which examines the frequency of occurrence of individual narrative features in the presented papers, the occurrence of the main character of narration - the story and the phase of its use in the lecture structure. The result of the empirical part of the work is to find out what is the difference between the use of narrative features in TED speeches and whether it is related to the level of viewing of these speeches, which are considered in this work as a means of narrative education in the form of narration.
