Cubist Architecture in Bratislava as Part of the City Planning in 20s of 20th Century

Abstract:

Master ‘s thesis deals with construction environment of Slovak capital city, Bratislava in 20. years of 20. century. It gives closer look on construction activity in early twen-ties and focuses primary on development of “national style” hence cubism in the city of Bratislava. Thesis gives reader informations about architects working in that time in Bratislava through clear biographical medallions. The core of the thesis is analysis of chosen constructions in capital city with elements of cubism. It is mainly analysis from archive records, specifically from State archive in Bratislava, from records of tax ad-ministration, and archive of Bratislava city, from archive fund of chief city architect. However, photographic and picture documentation was no less important. After finish-ing the analysis and its textual and visual processing thesis incorporates examined ar-chitecture into the moment of city and into environment of no less important construc-tion of new buildings.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práca sa zaoberá stavebným prostredím hlavného mesta Slo-venska, Bratislavy v 20. rokoch 20.storočia. Podáva bližší pohľad na stavebnú činnosť skorých 20. rokov a zameriava sa prioritne na vývoj „národného štýlu“ teda kubizmu na území mesta Bratislava. Práca podáva čitateľovi informácie o architektoch pôsobia-cich v danej dobe v meste Bratislava prostredníctvom prehľadných biografických me-dailónov. Jadrom práce je analýza vybraných stavieb v hlavnom meste s prvkami ku-bizmu. Jedná sa o analýzu predovšetkým z archívnych záznamov, konkrétne zo Štát-neho archívu v Bratislave, zo záznamov daňovej správy, a archívu mesta Bratislavy, z archívneho fondu hlavného mestského architekta. Nemenej dôležitá však bola hlavne obrazová a fotografická dokumentácia. Po dokončení analýzy a jej textovom a obrazo-vom spracovaní práca začleňuje skúmanú architektúru do rázu mesta a do prostredia popritom vznikajúcich nemenej hodnotných stavieb.
