Interface for Image Similarity Search

Abstract:

Since the amount of digital data grows rapidly, an interest in multimedia searching is increasing considerably. One of the approaches is similarity search paradigm based on the image content. The MUFIN, an extensible search engine developed at Faculty of Informatics, is able to provide a search among millions of pictures based on their content. Although MUFIN is robust and powerful, it lacks an easy-to-use user interface. The objective of this thesis is to develop a set of applications allowing casual users to experience the similarity search. The interfaces provides searching based on the image stored on his or her hard-drive, random image from an image database, any image on the website or pictures taken by the digital camera in the cell-phone.
