Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá postavy andělů v amerických populárních příbězích s důrazem na jejich vývoj ze stereotypního zobrazení z doby před 90. lety v jejich současnou sofistikovanější a ucelenější podobu. Za účelem dokázání, že tento vývoj byl zapříčiněn splynutím archetypů anděla a „šibala“ potom analyzuje běžné andělské tropy v současných amerických příbězích a udává příklady toho, jak určité rysy šibala mohly rozvrátit stereotypní chápání andělů z předešlé doby a učinit je tak lákavějšími pro současného amerického diváka.

Abstract:

This Master’s thesis examines the uses of angels in American popular narratives, focusing on the development from the stereotypical depictions of the pre-1990s into the more sophisticated and complete depictions of today. Proposing that this development may have been prompted by the merger of the angel and the "trickster" archetypes, this thesis analyses common angelic tropes in recent American popular narratives, providing examples of how specific trickster features may have disrupted the stereotypical understanding of angels from the previous era, transforming them into characters that are more appealing to contemporary American audiences.
