Phototoxicity of active cosmetic ingredients

Abstract:

Fototoxicita může způsobit dočasné i trvalé změny na pokožce a je způsobena reakcí fototaktivních látek s UV zářením. Některé fotoaktivní látky se používají jako kosmetické ingredience, a proto je nutné tyto látky testovat a legislativně řídit. Teoretická část této práce je zaměřená na fototoxicitu a její dopady na lidskou pokožku. Také se zabývá možnou ochranou před fototoxickou reakcí a popsané jsou i samotné fototoxické látky. V rámci praktické části byla stanovená fototoxicita vybraných esenciálních olejů a UV filtrů. Testování fototoxicity bylo provedeno s použitím myších fibroblastů a vyhodnoceno pomocí testu MTT.

Abstract:

Phototoxicity can cause temporary and permanent skin changes and is caused by interaction of phototoxic substance and UV light. Some of the phototoxic substances can be used as cosmetics ingrediences and therefore it is necessary to test photoactive materials and legislatively manage them. The theoretical part of this thesis is dealing with photoxicity and its effect on the human skin. Moreover, the possible protection against the phototoxicity and some phototoxic substances is also decribed. Regarding the experimental part, the phototoxicity of chosen essential oils and UV filtres was tested. Testing of the phototoxicity was done by using mice fibroblasts and the evaluation was done by MTT test.
