Physiotherapy protocol for a patient with second degree obesity following ischemic stroke: case report

Abstract:

This paper is aimed at analyzing and investigating a neurological pathology, stroke, which today, after myocardial infarction and tumors, represents the third cause of death. Specifically, we will describe, in an analytical way, the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and of the pathology itself, in order to research the causes and risk factors that lead to the manifestation of stroke, including obesity. In fact, it represents one of the main risk factors for stroke, which increases with increasing BMI (body mass index). The main medical, pharmacological, instrumental and physiotherapy therapies that can be adopted on the basis of new scientific evidence will then be analyzed, with a careful focus also on the new rehabilitation techniques to be adopted to increase the final results. Within this paper, a clinical case of a patient with second degree of obesity affected by ischemic stroke will be described. In conclusion, the objective of the thesis will be to describe the patient's rehabilitation process in the various phases of the pathology, from the acute phase to the complete recovery of the actions of daily life (ADL).

Abstract:

Questo elaborato ? finalizzato ad analizzare ed approfondire una patologia neurologica, l'ictus, che ad oggi, dopo l'infarto del miocardio e i tumori, rappresenta la terza causa di morte. Nello specifico si andr? a descrivere, in modo analitico, l'anatomia e la fisiologia del sistema nervoso e della patologia stessa, in modo da ricercare le cause e i fattori di rischio che portano alla manifestazione dell'ictus, tra cui l'obesit?. Essa, infatti, rappresenta uno dei principali fattori di rischio per l'ictus, il quale aumenta con l'aumentare del BMI (indice di massa corporea). In seguito, verranno poi analizzate le principali terapie mediche, farmacologiche, strumentali e fisioterapiche che si possono adottare sulla base delle nuove evidenze scientifiche, con focus attentivo anche su quelle che sono le nuove tecniche riabilitative da adottare per incrementare i risultati finali. All'interno di questo elaborato sar? descritto un caso clinico di una paziente con secondo grado di obesit? colpita da stroke ischemico. In conclusione, l'obiettivo della tesi sar? quello di descrivere l'iter riabilitativo della paziente nelle varie fasi della patologia, dalla fase acuta al completo recupero delle attivit? della vita quotidiana (ADL).
