Historical Roots of Goniometry and Trigonometry on Second Degree of Primary Schools

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je věnována školské goniometrii a trigonometrii, která je v současné době relativně uzavřenou disciplinou. Pokusila jsem se v ní zmapovat její historický vývoj od úplných počátků přes její určitý rozkvět v době antického Říma v pracích Hipparchových a Ptolemaiových, přes práce indických matematiků a přínos matematiků muslimských (Násiruddín Túsí vydělil trigonometrii z astronomie jako samostatnou matematickou disciplinu na konci 13. století), přes přínos evropského matematika Johana Müllera v 15. století až k Leonardu Eulerovi, který zavedl pro zkoumání goniometrických funkcí systematicky jednotkový poloměr kružnice a dal goniometrii současnou moderní podobu. Dále jsem se pokusila charakterizovat současné goniometrické pojmy a jejich vlastnosti na středoškolské úrovni a uvedla jsem i některé, které již byly v důsledku reforem a modernizace školské matematiky vypuštěny, protože jsou plně nahraditelné pojmy zachovanými. Při tom jsem provedla i důkazy vlastností uváděných goniometrických pojmů a vět. Krátce jsem se zmínila i o učebních osnovách a zařazení goniometrie a trigonometrie do nich.

Abstract:

In my dissertation I wanted to show the historical development of goniometry and trigonometry from the start to their present form that is known and taught at our schools at this time. It deals with discovering of goniometric and trigonometric principles and their follow-up development. In the following part of this dissertation I described the curriculum of the 20th century where I chose the pivotal parts of goniometry and trigonometry, and Global education program (RVP)and Education program of school (ŠVP) that are important for curriculum making at present. The second chapter characterize the conception of goniometry and trigonometry. I show it quite generally and I prove some trigonometric formulas there. Next chapter is devoted to the demonstrations of goniometric and trigonometric formulas. At the first part I chose two kinds of exercise, which I solved with the assistance of the Tangent´s theorem. Then I wanted to demonstrate that the Tangent´s theorem was left because it is fully filled by. Then I solved these two exercises again with the assistance of Sin´s and Cosine?s theorem to prove this affirmation. The second part of this chapter is about an interdisciplinary relations. To be specific, I chose the use of goniometry and trigonometry in physics: the comprise of forces and one of the general mechanical motion´s formula for the calculation of velocity, distance and time. The last chapter mentions some targets that the pupil should reach in the monitoring realm and where he can use the gained knowledge of goniometry and trigonometry. This dissertation can help to everybody to show the progress of education of goniometry and trigonometry in the Czech educational system, and this can be used for inspiration by the new methods in education of these questions.
