Development of Harold Pinter's drama writing

Abstract:

Záměrem této diplomové práce navazující na bakalářskou práci Dramatická tvorba Harolda Pintera v kontextu i mimo kontext absurdní dramatiky (reflektující Pinterovu tvorbu jako kompaktní celek, sestávající z textů určených nejen pro divadlo nýbrž i pro film, zároveň i z textů básnických, prozaických a žurnalistických, přičemž těžištěm zkoumané problematiky byla analýza jeho dramatického textu Narozeniny/The Birthday Party), je systematicky rozčlenit dramatickou tvorbu Harolda Pintera. Vzhledem k proměnám, kterými dramatická tvorba Harolda Pintera za téměř půl století prošla, člením ji po prostudování do tří fází (1. komedie hrozby, 2. melancholie bez hrozby, 3. angažovaný vzdor). K tomuto členění jsem dospěla v této studii na základě analýz vybraných dramatických textů stanovených podle proměny Pinterovy dramatické tvorby a vzhledem k užitým uměleckým prostředkům, práce s jazykem a zkoumání vlivů, které se v průběhu tvorby Harolda Pintera měnily nebo zůstávaly konstantními. V souvislosti s tímto výzkumem je součástí mé práce překlad prvotiny a zároveň stěžejního dramatického textu Harolda Pintera The Room (Pokoj, 1957), který nebyl dosud do češtiny přeložen.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis follows the bachelor thesis "Dramatic works of Harold Pinter within and without the context of the theatre of the absurd" (reflecting Pinter's works as a compact unity consisting not only of drama texts but including also his film scripts, poetry, prose and articles, while focusing mainly on the analysis of the drama The Birthday Party). Its main aim is a systematic classification of Pinter's drama. With respect to the development of Harold Pinter's drama in half a century I differentiate after research three phases: 1. Comedy of menance, 2. Melancholy without menance, 3. Committed defiance. This division introduced in this work has been based on the analyses of the drama works selected on the basis of playwright's creative development, the changes in his artistic methods, his usage of the language and through the study of the permanent as well as temporary influences on his writing. Connected to this work is also my translation of Pinter's first play and at the same time a great artistic achievement The Room, not before translated into Czech.
