Abstract:

The present thesis aims to analyse and comment on the translation of subtitles for the web series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, with a special focus on intertextual elements. The first part of this thesis investigates the concept of intertextuality and allusion, and comments on aspects that should be taken into consideration during the translation process. The next part is devoted to subtitling and examination of suitable translation strategies. This is followed by an analysis and interpretation of individual allusions and their subsequent translation. Since this web series is a modern re-telling of Jane Austen?s Pride and Prejudice, specificities of this adaptation and its links to the novel are also thoroughly discussed.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza a komentovaný překlad titulků k internetovému seriálu Deník Lizzie Bennetové, se zaměřením na intertextualní jevy. První část této práce se zabývá konceptem intertextuality a aluze, a také poukazuje na aspekty, jež by měly být zohledněny při jejich překladu. Další část je věnována titulkování a vhodným překladatelským strategiím. Poté následuje analýza a interpretace jednotlivých aluzí a jejich samotný překlad. Poněvadž je tento internetový seriál moderní verzí románu Jane Austenové Pýcha a předsudek, jsou také důkladně prodiskutována specifika této adaptace a její spojitost s daným dílem.
