The recovery of flexibility and muscle strength in traumatic injuries of the hamstring muscles: case report

Abstract:

Hamstring injuries are common in sports involving sprints, kicks, high-speed movements or muscle stretching with hip flexion and knee extension. Nearly a third of these injuries shows up again in the first year of return to the sport, with subsequent injuries which are often more severe than the previous ones and so they require a longer recovery time. According to some authors, almost 30% of recurrence of hamstring injuries occur in the first three weeks of sports activity. This high rate of recidivism indicates that many athletes return prematurely to sport without a proper rehabilitation program. An early return in sports means to expose the athlete to a suboptimal performance which is also linked to the risk of a new injury.

Abstract:

Le lesioni degli hamstring sono comuni negli sport che coinvolgono sprint, calci, movimenti ad alta velocit? o allungamento muscolare con flessione d'anca ed estensione del ginocchio. Quasi un terzo di queste lesioni si ripresenta nel primo anno di ritorno allo sport, con lesioni successive spesso pi? gravi di quelle precedenti che richiedono tempi di recupero maggiori. Secondo alcuni autori, quasi il 30% delle recidive di lesione degli hamstring avviene nelle prime tre settimane di ripresa all'attivit? sportiva. Questo alto tasso di recidivit? ci indica che molti atleti ritornano prematuramente allo sport senza un corretto programma riabilitativo. Un ritorno precoce all'attivit? sportiva significa esporre l'atleta ad una performance non ottimale insieme al rischio di una nuova lesione.
