Bakteriofágy jako přirozené viry bakterií byly k léčbě bakteriálních infekcí používány již od dob jejich objevu před téměř 100 lety. Kvůli nedostatečné znalosti jejich biologie a pozdějšímu objevu antibiotik se však od bakteriofágové terapie upustilo. Abstract:
Bacteriophages, or natural viruses of bacteria, were used for treatment of bacterial infections since their discovery almost a 100 years ago. Because of insufficient knowledge of their biology and the later discovery of antibiotics, the bacteriophage therapy has been abandoned.
