ANALYSIS OF THE STRUCTURE OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN PRAGUE AND IN THE PARDUBICE REGION

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce analyzuje determinanty ovlivňující míru nezaměstnanosti na regionální úrovni se zaměřením na spojitosti a rozdílnosti v Praze a v Pardubickém kraji, neboť tyto kraje se vyznačují dlouhodobě nízkou mírou nezaměstnanosti. Hlavními rozdíly jsou například průměrná výše mzdy, či rozdíly ve výši vzdělání obyvatel. Naopak společným znakem je například trend růstu počtu obyvatel cizí národnosti. Cílem práce je porovnat determinanty napříč kraji a poté otestovat významnost jednotlivých proměnných pomocí regresní analýzy. V empirické části práce je sestaven lineární regresní model za pomocí panelových dat z 14 krajů České republiky v letech 2005-2021, dostupných z ČSÚ a MPSV. Na základě výsledků regresní analýzy lze potvrdit negativní vliv na nezaměstnanost u proměnných HDP a věk. Pozitivní vliv naopak u proměnné dávky. Testu je zde podrobena i hlavní hypotéza této bakalářské práce která zní „Lidé s vyšším věkem a vyšším vzděláním dosahují nižší nezaměstnanosti, než lidé s nižším věkem a nižším vzděláním.“. Negativní vliv vzdělání na nezaměstnanost se nepodařilo potvrdit a proto byla hypotéza zamítnuta.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis analyzes the determinants affecting the unemployment rate at the regional level with a focus on connections and differences in Prague and the Pardubice region, as these regions are characterized by a long-term low unemployment rate. The main differences are, for example, the average salary or differences in the level of education of the population. On the contrary, a common feature is, for example, the trend of growth in the number of residents of foreign nationalities. The aim of the thesis is to compare the determinants across regions and then to test the significance of individual variables using regression analysis. In the empirical part of the thesis, a linear regression model is constructed using panel data from 14 regions of the Czech Republic in the years 2005-2021, available from the Czech Statistical Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Based on the results of the regression analysis, a negative effect on unemployment can be confirmed for the variables GDP and age. A positive effect, on the other hand, with a variable dose. The main hypothesis of this bachelor's thesis, which reads "People with older age and higher education, achieve lower unemployment than people with younger age and lower education" is also put to the test. The negative effect of education on unemployment could not be confirmed and therefore the hypothesis was rejected.
