Change Implementation in the Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Prague

Abstract:

The master´s thesis deals with change implementation in an organisation. The theoretical part of the thesis brings information about the change itself, particular approaches to changes and different types of changes. Organisation is perceived as an agent or a subject of changes and special attention is paid to two models of organisational changes. It was important to point out the tasks of participants in change as well as obstacles, which prevent the changes from being implemented. The thesis focuses also on the stategies used by the managers to successfully win employee support for the change. The analytical part of the work concentrates on quantitative research and finds out through interview the concrete approach of the managers to overcoming employee resistance to change in the Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Prague in which the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program had been introduced. The results showed that the employee resistance to change lasted no more than 5 months. Financial benefits achieved by the hotel, successful training and education handling and employee benefits were the main reasons of overcoming the employee resistance to change. The proposal part of the thesis aims to make recommendations for improving the problematic issues. The master´s thesis complies with the stated methodological procedure and through its elaboration points out the essential professional approaches to the given issue and is a result of assembled up-to-date information.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa venuje zavedeniu zmeny v organizácii. Teoretická časť práce prináša informácie o samotnej zmene, o jednotlivých prístupoch a druhoch zmien. Organizáciu vníma ako subjekt a objekt zmien a osobitnú pozornosť venuje dvom modelom organizačných zmien. Za dôležité považuje poukázať na úlohy samotných účastníkov zmien ako aj prekážky, ktoré bránia ich zavedeniu. Pohľad zameriava aj na stratégie, ktoré využívajú manažéri na úspešné získanie podriadených pre zmenu. Analytická časť práce sa venuje kvalitatívnemu výskumu a pomocou interview zisťuje konkrétny prístup manažérov k riešeniu odporu ku zmene u zamestnancov hotela Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Prague, v ktorom sa zavádzal vernostný program Starwood Preferred Guest. Z výsledkov sa ukázalo, že odpor zamestnancov trval maximálne do 5 mesiacov. Hlavným dôvodom jeho odstránenia boli dosiahnuté výsledky hotela, úspešné zvládnutie potrebných tréningov a školení a zamestnanecké benefity. V návrhovej časti sa autor zameriava na odporúčania k možnostiam zlepšenia problémových oblastí. Diplomová práca sa pridržiava stanoveného metodického postupu, svojim spracovaním poukazuje na podstatné odborné prístupy k stanovenej problematike a je výsledkom zhromažďovania najnovších informácií.
