The impact of economic activity of women on fertility after 1989

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, do jaké míry ekonomická aktivita žen ovlivňuje úroveň plodnosti v České republice. Časové období je stanoveno od roku 1989 po současnost. Nicméně pro hlubší analýzu a rekonstrukci situací, které předcházely poklesu plodnosti v 90. letech, zachycuji vývoj ukazatele úhrnné plodnosti napříč celým 20. století. Tato práce se zároveň soustředí na socioekonomické podmínky v zemi, které mohou mít rozhodující vliv na reprodukční chování populace. Zachyceny jsou historicky významná časová období, jež zásadním způsobem ovlivnila vývoj plodnosti pozitivním či negativním způsobem. Z hlediska ekonomické aktivity je zkoumán vliv míry zaměstnanosti a nezaměstnanosti žen na vývoj plodnosti. Analýzu plodnosti dále provádím dle nejvyšší dosažené úrovně vzdělání žen a průměrného věku žen při narození prvního dítěte. Vývoj plodnosti v České republice je dále interpretován z hlediska mezinárodního srovnání v rámci vybraných evropských států. Je zde zachycen rozdílný projev druhého demografického přechodu v jednotlivých státech, charakteristický poklesem úhrnné plodnosti a zvyšujícím se průměrným věkem ženy při narození dítěte.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to determine the extent to which women's economic activity influences the level of fertility in the Czech Republic. The time period is determined from 1989 to the present. However, for deeper analysis and reconstruction of the situation that preceded the decline in fertility in the 1990s, the development of total fertility rate across the entire 20th century is captured. This work also focuses on socio-economic conditions in the country, which may have a decisive influence on the reproductive behavior of the population. Historically significant periods of time that influenced the development of fertility positive or negative way are covered. In terms of economic activity the influence of employment and unemployment of women towards the rate of fertility is examined. I also perform an analysis of fertility by educational attainment of women and the average age of women at first birth. Development of fertility in the Czech Republic is also interpreted in terms of international comparisons of selected European countries. This analysis shows a different impact of the second demographic transition in individual states, characterized by a decline in the total fertility rate and increasing average age of women at first birth.
