Mezinárodní ochrana lidských práv ušla od svého vzniku dlouhou cestou. Zpočátku byla ochrana lidských práv čistě v rukou nezávislých států, ale postupem času mezinárodní organizace začaly na ochranu lidských práv pohlížet jako na jeden ze svých účelů.
