Post-Cold War Cuban and Cuban American Women’s Fiction: Intersectionality in the Caribbean

Abstract:

Tato práce, která vychází z chápání karibské identity jako metafory vztahu, se zabývá ženskou identitou reprezentovanou literárními tropy v současné kubánské a kubánsko-americké ženské próze. V disertaci navrhuji studovat oba kánony jako jednu modalitu. Práce, jež využívá feministické a postkoloniální metody literární a kulturní analýzy, srovnání a syntézy, zkoumá intersekcionalitu genderu, rasy a sexuality v narativním diskurzu. V disertaci nabízím interpretovat textové zpodobnění ženské identity jako alegorii kubánského národa.

Abstract:

Drawing on the metaphor of the Caribbean identity as a relation, this dissertation seeks to investigate a female identity as represented through literary tropes in contemporary Cuban and Cuban American women’s novels. I suggest that both canons be treated as one modality. By using feminist and postcolonial methods of literary and cultural analysis, comparison, and synthesis, this work examines intersections of gender, race, and sexuality in the narrative discourse. I propose to read the literary representation of a female identity as the allegory of the Cuban nation.
