Abstract:

Tato práce prozkoumává divadelní čtvrť města New York, na které se nachází Broadwayská divadla rozkládající se mezi čtyřicátou první a šedesátou pátou ulicí ve střední části Manhattanu podél Broadwayské Třídy. První část práce se zaměřuje na Broadwayskou historii, představení, Národní turné a publikum. Kromě toho se tato část také detailněji věnuje finančnímu dopadu Broadwaye na ekonomiku města New York. Zbývající části se soustředí na tři historická Broadwayská divadla. Postupně jsou analyzovány jejich historie, architektura, současní provozovatelé a nejvýznamnější představení. Cílem této práce je zdůraznit neutuchající význam Broadwaye jako globální divadelní značky, jejíž divadelní představení jsou hrána po celém světě. Mimoto je záměrem práce ukázat na jednotlivých třech divadlech rozdílné řídící přístupy jejich provozovatelů, kteří jsou zodpovědní za chod divadel.

Abstract:

This thesis explores New York City’s Theater District and its Broadway theatres which stretch from 41st to 65th Streets in Midtown Manhattan along Broadway Road. The first part of the thesis focuses on Broadway history, shows, National tours and audiences. Moreover, this part also takes a closer look at the financial impact of Broadway on the New York City economy. The remaining parts concentrate on three historical Broadway theatres. Their history, architecture, current operators and most notable productions are analysed in individual chapters. The goal of this thesis is to emphasize the persisting importance of Broadway as a global theatrical force whose theatrical performances are played all over the world. Furthermore, on the examples of three particular Broadway theatres, the thesis aims to show different managerial approaches from the operators who are responsible for the running of the theatres.
