Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá období Studené války zobrazené z pohledu vybraných amerických filmů, které odrážejí prvky tohoto politického napětí. Vychází se z předpokladu, že film je schopný zachytit obecné postoje a dojmy, které pro diváky často zpracovávají nebo vysvětlují určité historické události. Typologie hlavních postav filmů je využita k hlubší analýze tehdejší názorů Americké společnosti na toto období; každý typ by tedy měl reprezentovat jeden pravděpodobný postoj. Pomocí typologie se tato práce snaží dokázat, že se určité charakteristiky opakovaně v těchto filmech objevují a odrážejí tehdejší události.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the perception of the Cold War period from the perspective of selected American films reflecting aspects of this political tension. It is presupposed that cinema has the power to capture general attitudes and impressions of periods, often as a way of explaining or processing certain historical events. A typology of the films’ main characters is employed to further analyse the opinions of the public about this period; thus, each type should represent one likely attitude. By employing the typology, it was attempted to prove that certain characteristics re-appear and reflect contemporary issues and events.
