The Potential of Blockchain Technology in the Payment Infrastructure

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na kvantifikaci trendu a potenciál využití blockchainu v globálním platebním styku. Velká část práce je věnována teoretickým základům z oblasti bankovnictví, platebního styku a blockchainu.V rámci práce bylo zjištěno, že aktuálním trendem jsou mobilní platby a celkový růst podílu bezhotovostních plateb. V České republice se tak například uskuteční 65 % veškerých transakcí v hotovosti. Dalším výsledkem práce byl odhad budoucí adaptace technologie blockchain, na základě kterého jsem zjistil, že by podíl plateb v blockchainu měl být postupně vytlačen mobilními platbami a do roku 2025 klesnout o 50 %. Třetím výsledkem práce byla determinace nákladovosti plateb, ve které jsem došel k závěru, že nejnákladnější zahraniční platební metodou jsou bankovní převody a nejlevnější platby pomocí kryptoměny Ethereum.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the quantification of the trend and the potential use of blockchain in global payments. A large part of the work is devoted to the theoretical foundations of banking, payments and blockchain.It was found that the current trend in payments is mobile payments and the overall growth of the share of non-cash payments. In the Czech Republic, for instance, 65% of all transactions are made in cash. Another result of the thesis was an estimate of the future adaptation of blockchain technology, in which I found out that the share of payments in the blockchain should be gradually pushed out by mobile payments and decrease by 50% in 2025. The third result of the thesis was the determination of the cost of payments, in which I came to the conclusion, that the most expensive foreign payment method is bank transfers and the cheapest payment method is transactions using the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
