Mechanisms and instruments of counter-terrorism policy in the European Union

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit a vymezit mechanismy a nástroje protiteroristické politiky v Evropské unii přijaté po zlomovém datu v historii terorismu, a to po 11. září 2001. Objasňuje legislativní vymezení protiteroristických nástrojů Evropské unie a lidských práv v boji proti terorismu. Pojednává o historickém vývoji terorismu a poukazuje na různé typy teroristických útoků. Zmiňuje také fenomény Lone Wolf a Foreign Fighter, přičemž odlišuje rozdíly mezi válkou, guerillou a terorismem. Na základě dotazníkového šetření mapuje povědomí široké veřejnosti o nástrojích protiteroristické politiky a teroristických hrozbách Evropské unie. Prostřednictvím Global Terrorism Database poukazuje na vývoj terorismu, využívané druhy útoků a typů cílů, od roku 2001 až do počátku globální pandemie COVID-19 v roce 2019.

Abstract:

The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate and define the mechanisms and instruments of counter-terrorism policy in the European Union accepted after a turning point in the history of terrorism, after September 11, 2001. It clarifies the legislative definition of European Union's counter-terrorism instruments and human rights in the fight against terrorism. It deals with the historical development of terrorism and draws attention to various types of terrorist attacks. It also mentions the phenomena of Lone Wolf and Foreign Fighter, distinguishing the differences between war, guerrilla and terrorism. Based on a questionnaire survey, it maps the general public awareness of the instruments of the European Union's counter-terrorism policy and terrorist threats. With the Global Terrorism Database, it draws attention to the evolution of terrorism, the types of attacks used and the types of targets, from 2001 to the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic in 2019.
