Running trails in the public space as a part of the modern city infrastructure

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje možnostem podpory běhu, pro člověka zcela přirozeného pohybu, který ovšem v urbanizovaném prostoru ztratil své přirozené místo. Věnuje se převážně záměrným, delším běhům mimo sportovní areály. Nejde tedy o vrcholovou sportovní aktivitu, ale především o způsob trávení volného času. Teoretická část popisuje roli běhu v moderní společnosti, jejímž atributem je svobodná individuální volba. Běh jako součást životního stylu určité skupiny obyvatel moderního města vyžaduje také zásahy do veřejného prostoru, a především změnu pohledu na tento druh pohybové aktivity. Praktická část popisuje současný stav infrastruktury pro dálkový běh v Praze, ale i společenské a kulturní aspekty běhání: roli marketingu a velkých běžeckých událostí, ale i dlouhodobějších projektů pražského magistrátu zaměřených na podporu běžců. Vyústěním práce jsou doporučení pro zlepšení současné situace běhu a běžců v metropoli.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the support possibilities of running, a completely natural human movement that however, in the urbanized area, has lost its natural place. It mostly deals with the intentional, prolonged runs outside of the sports areas. The thesis is not on a top sport activity, but mostly about a way of spending free time. The theoretical part describes the role of running in the modern society, whose attribute is a free choice of each individual. Running as a lifestyle part of some group of people in a modern city also requires interventions to the public space, and especially a point of view change on this kind of activity. The practical part of the thesis describes the current status of the infrastructure for long-distance running in Prague, but it also describes social and cultural aspects of running -- the role of marketing and major running events, but also long-term projects organized by Prague City Hall aimed at support of runners. The thesis results in recommendations for improving the current situation of running and joggers in the city.
