The specific of institutional care from the perspective of the caretakers in children’s homes

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o specifikách a případných problémech ústavní péče v České republice pohledem vychovatelů v dětských domovech. Cílem práce je nahlédnout do zkušeností vychovatelů s ústavní péčí, zjistit s jakými těžkostmi se v rámci své profese setkávají, a jakou podporu by pro výkon své profese potřebovali. Pro empirickou část byl zvolen kvalitativní design výzkumu. Data byla sbírána metodou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a následně zpracována prostřednictvím interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Z výsledků vyplývá, že vychovatelé za nejzásadnější problémy systému ústavní péče v České republice považují nedostatek podpory ze strany státu a nerealistické představy hostitelských rodin. Mezi nejtěžší aspekty práce vychovatele respondenti mimo jiné řadí zásah do osobního života, rozdělení pozornosti mezi všechny děti a obtížnou spolupráci s rodiči. Ocenili by větší podporu ze strany státu a také pravidelné supervize. Zdůrazňovali i rozšíření povědomí o problematice dětských domovů. Věřím, že tato práce může být jeden z podnětů, které přispějí k větší podpoře vychovatelů v ústavní péči.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the specifics and potential problems of institutional care in the Czech Republic from the perspective of caregivers in children's homes. The aim of the thesis is to look into the experiences of caregivers with institutional care, to find out what difficulties they encounter in their profession and what support do they need. A qualitative research design was chosen for the empirical part. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews and then processed through interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results show that caregivers consider the lack of support from the state and unrealistic ideas of host families as the most pending problems of the system of institutional care in the Czech Republic. Among the most difficult aspects of the caregiver's work, the respondents rank interference in personal life, division of attention among all children and difficult cooperation with the parents. They would appreciate more support from the state and regular supervision. They also stressed the expansion of awareness of the problems of children's homes. I believe that this work can be one of the incentives that will contribute to greater support for caregivers in residential care.
