Augustines path to embracing Christianity: through Manicheism to Christianity

Abstract:

Cílem práce je filosofický pohled na konverzi Aurelia Augustina ke křesťanské víře. První část práce pojednává o období jeho života, kdy křesťanskou víru odmítal. Druhá část se zabývá jeho pobytem v sektě manichejců, kde se už připravovala jeho cesta k přijetí křesťanství. Třetí část pojednává obecně o pojmu konverze. Na to naváže další část, která nahlíží na Augustinovu konverzi z filosofického hlediska. Závěrečná část se věnuje některým aspektům Augustinova teologického myšlení.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis, I deal with the philosophical view of the Aurelius Augustine's conversion to Christian faith. Augustine embraced first manichaeism, then he drifted into neoplatonism, and in conclusion converted to christianity. First part of the paper discusses the time of his life when he rejected christianity. Second part deals with manichaeistic period when Augustine was a member of the manichaeistic cult, reinforcing his journey to christian faith. The third part of the work provides a general introduction of the conversion term. Furthermore, I consider Augustine's conversion from a philosophical point of view. Finally, some aspects of Augustine's theological thinking are introduced.
