Viviparous monogeneans of selected cichlids of Southern Africa

Abstract:

Za účelem studia diverzity živorodých monogeneí oblasti jižní Afriky bylo v letech 2011-2012 vyšetřeno celkem 136 jedinců cichlidovitých ryb náležících do osmi druhů. Odlovy byly provedeny v Jihoafrické republice na říčce Nwanedi a v Zimbabwe na řece Zambezi a jezerech Kariba a Chivero. Živorodá monogenea rodu Gyrodactylus Nordmann, 1832 byla zaznamenána u pěti druhů ryb: Oreochromis niloticus (L.), Pharyngochromisacuticeps (Steindachner), Pseudocrenilabrus philander (Weber), Tilapia rendalli Smith, Tilapia sparrmanii Smith a Tilapia sp.. Na základě morfometrie sklerotizovaných struktur haptoru a sekvencí úseku interních transkribovaných mezerníků (ITS) jaderné ribosomální DNA, byla zjištěna přítomnost 11 druhů rodu Gyrodactylus. K upřesnění identifikace na základě metrických dat byla použita analýza hlavních komponent (PCA). Byly identifikovány tři druhy, které jsou v současnosti známé pro vědu: Gyrodactylus nyanzae Paperna, 1973, Gyrodactylus sturmbaueri Vanhove, Snoeks, Volckaert & Huyse, 2011, a Gyrodactylus yacatli García-Vásquez, Hansen, Christison, Bron & Shinn, 2011. Zbývajících 8 druhů představuje nové druhy. Práce přináší první záznam o přítomnosti G. yacatli na africkém kontinentu, kde byl zaznamenán na O. niloticus a P. philander. Identifikace 8 nepopsaných druhů rodu Gyrodactylus naznačuje na přítomnost vysoké diverzity těchto parazitů na africkém kontinentě. Na základě morfologických znaků byly identifikované druhy rozděleny do 5 skupin, v rámci nichž je možné odlišit jednotlivé druhy dle metrických znaků nebo tvaru okrajových háčků. Fylogenetické analýzy, test maximální věrohodnosti a Bayesovská statistika, odhalily mezidruhové vztahy. Výsledné shluky tvořené jednotlivými druhy jsou v souladu s morfologickými znaky sklerotizovaných struktur haptoru.

Abstract:

Viviparous monogenea of selected cichlids of Southern Africa In order to undestand the diversity of viviparous monogeans in the region of Southern Africa a total number of 136 cichlids representing 8 species were examined during 2011-2012. Fish were collected in South Africa from the Nwanedi River and in Zimbabwe from Zambie River and Lakes Kariba and Chivero. Viviparous monogena of the genus Gyrodactylus Nordmann, 1832 were recorded at five host species: Oreochromis niloticus (L.), Pharyngochromis acuticeps (Steindachner), Pseudocrenilabrus philander (Weber), Tilapia rendalli Smith, Tilapia sparrmanii Smith and Tilapia sp.. Species identification based on haptoral sclerites morphometry and nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences revealed presence of 11 Gyrodactylus species, which only three of them are currently known for the sciences as described species: Gyrodactylus nyanzae Paperna, 1973, Gyrodactylus sturmbaueri Vanhove, Snoeks, Volckaert & Huyse, 2011, and Gyrodactylus yacatli García-Vásquez, Hansen, Christison, Bron & Shinn, 2011. Principal components analyses (PCA) facilitated distinguishing of morphologically similar species. This study brings the first record of G. yacatli collected on O. niloticus and P. philander from Africa. Identification of 8 undescribed Gyrodactylus species intimates high diversity of these parasites on African continent. Based on the morphology identified species were divided into five groups within each of them the species can be distinguished based on measurements of the haptoral sclerites or the shape of marginal hook sickles. Phylogenetic analyses, the maximum likelihood and Bayesian interference analyses, revealed interspecific relationship. Resulted clustering of particular species is in the accordance with morphological characters of the haptoral sclerites.
