The anisotropy of shear strength of Neogeneous clays

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá experimentálním výzkumem anizotropního chování smykové pevnosti vrstevnatých neogenních jílů. Hlavním cílem práce je ověřit, zda má orientace vrstevnatosti vliv na pevnost ve smyku. Zkoušky smykové pevnosti byly provedeny na smykovém krabicovém přístroji. Testováno bylo šest vzorků jílu, které byly odebrány pod pěti rozdílnými orientacemi (0°; 22,5°; 45°; 67,5°; 90°) vzhledem k vrstevnatosti. Zkoumaný jíl byl v ohledu pevnosti ve smyku anizotropní. Výsledné hodnoty smykové pevnosti i parametry smykové pevnosti (koheze a úhel vnitřního tření) se lišily v závislosti na úhlu sklonu odebraného vzorku. Nejnižší pevnosti dosáhly vzorky odebrané pod úhlem 45°. U naměřených hodnot smykové pevnosti i~parametrů se projevilo symetrické chování. Hodnoty byly symetrické podle úhlu 45°. Za účelem statistického ověření průkaznosti dat byly provedeny korelační analýzy. V řadě případů potvrdily vysoké korelační koeficienty statistickou závislost.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with experimental research of anisotropic behaviour of shear strength in stratified Neogenous clays. The main goal of the thesis is to determine whether orientation of stratification affects shear strength. Testing of shear strength was carried out using box shear apparatus. The six samples of clay which were tested were taken under five various orientations (0°; 22,5°; 45°; 67,5°; 90°) relative to stratification. The tested clay proved to be anisotropic in regard to shear strength. The resultant values of shear strength and shear strength parameters (cohesion and angle of internal friction) differed depending on the angle of the sample. The lowest amount of strength was found in samples which were obtained under a 45 degree angle. The measured values of both shear strength and parameters exhibited symmetrical behaviour. Correlation analyses were performed in order to statistically verify conclusiveness of the data. In many cases, high correlation coefficients proved statistical dependence.
