Stress of the parents of a child with combined disability

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo identifikovat úroveň stresu u rodičů pečujících o dítě s kombinovaným postižením. Dále pak zjistit souvislost mezi stresem rodičů, jejich věkem, vzděláním, finanční zátěží, stupněm soběstačnosti jejich dítěte, délkou péče o dítě, mírou sociální podpory a využitím respitního pobytu. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 68 rodičů, kteří splňovali vstupní kritéria. Sběr dat byl proveden pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku Škála stresu rodičů (Parental Stress Scale - PSS), dotazníku Míry sociální opory (Social support Survey - MOS) a dotazníku vlastní konstrukce. Výsledky: Statisticky významný rozdíl byl zjištěn u finanční zátěže rodičů v souvislosti s péčí o jejich dítě. Zde bylo prokázáno, že stres souvisí s finanční zátěží. Spočítán byl i stres (celkový) a jednotlivé otázky dotazníku Míry sociální opory. Ve všech případech je mezi stresem a jednotlivými otázkami opory záporná korelace, čím vyšší je opora, tím nižší je u rodičů stres. Dle stupně postižení, které dítě má (I.-IV.), byl také zjištěn statisticky významný rozdíl. Mezi stresem rodičů a stupněm závislosti jejich dítěte je významný vztah. Nejvyšší stres byl zaznamenán u rodičů, kteří mají dítě s druhým stupněm postižení. Závěr: Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že péče o dítě s kombinovaným postižením je finančně velmi náročná. Nejvyšší stres byl naměřen u rodičů dítěte, které má druhý stupeň závislosti, tedy středně těžkou závislost. V neposlední řadě je v takto náročné životní situaci velmi důležitá sociální opora rodiny, bez které se péče stává náročnou, stresující a mnohdy nelehkou. Abstract:

ABSTRACT Aim: The aim of the diploma thesis was to identify the level of stress in parents caring for a child with a combined disability. Furthermore, to find out the connection between parental stress, their age, education, financial burden, level of self-sufficiency of their child, length of child care, level of social support and use of respite stay. Methodics: The research group consisted of 68 parents who met the entry criteria. Data collection was performer using a standardized Parental Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire, Social Support Survey (MOS) questionnaire and self-designed questionnaire. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the financial burden of parents in connection with the care of their child. There was shown that stress is related to the financial burden. Stress (overall) and individual questions of the Social Support Survey (MOS) questionnaire were also calculated. In all cases, there is a negative correlation between stress and individual questions of support, the higher the support, the lower the stress for parents. According to the level of disability of a child (I.-IV.) there was also found a statistically significant difference. There is a significant relationship between parental stress and the level of their child´s dependence. The highest level of stress was found in parents who have a child with a second level of disability. Conclusion: The research showed that caring for a child with a combined disability is very costly. The highest level of stress was measured in the parents of a child with a second level of disability, thus moderate disability. Last but not least, in such a demanding life situation, the social support of the family is very importatnt, without witch care becomes demanding, stressful and often difficult.
