Severin-Kosořský workshop in the context of Central European Printmaking in first half of 16th century

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je Severinsko–kosořská dynastie, pod jejíž hlavičkou působili čtyři členové: Kramář Severin, Pavel Severin z Kapí Hory, Jan Severin mladší a Jan Kosořský z Kosoře. Všichni (s výjimkou prvního jmenovaného) stáli v čele tiskařských dílen. Působení této pražské rodiny, která neměla ve své době v Praze žádnou dynastickou konkurenci, vkládáme do let 1488/1520–1557. Smyslem práce je seznámit čtenáře se Severinsko–kosořskou rodinou a zaměřit se přitom na ilustrační aparát knih, které byly do dnešních dnů velmi opomíjeny. Především se práce zaobírá prvním vydáním Bible české z roku 1529, tzv.: Severínky od Pavla Severina z Kapí Hory. Cílem je seznámit čtenáře s jednotlivými anonymními rytci, kteří se podíleli na vytvoření ilustračního doprovodu první Severínky (1529), plnohodnotně uvést každou jednotlivou ilustraci a upozornit na některé z vybraných štočků, jež se různými prvky odlišují od svých předloh nebo v návaznosti na text bible samotné. Práce se rovněž věnuje co nejpřesnějšímu ikonografickému pojmenování jednotlivých výjevů, které doposud měly pouze popisnou formu.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is the dynasty Severinsko-Kosořská, under the head of which four members were active: Kramář Severin, Pavel Severin z Kapí Hory, Jan Severin mladší and Jan Kosořský z Kosoře. All of them (with the exception of the first named) were at the head of printing workshops. We place the activity of this Prague family, which had no dynastic rivals in Prague at the time, in the years 1488/1520–1557. The purpose of this work is to acquaint the reader with the Severinsko Kosořskou family, focusing on the illustrative apparatus of the books, which have been largely neglected until today. First of all, the thesis deals with the first edition of the Bible česká from 1529, the so-called Severínka by Pavel Severin z Kapí Hory. The aim is to acquaint the reader with the individual anonymous engravers who participated in the creation of the illustrations of the first Severínka (1529), to give a full account of each individual illustration, and to draw attention to some of the selected plates which differ in various ways from their predecessors or in relation to the text of the Bible itself. The work also devotes itself to the most precise iconographic naming of the individual scenes, which have hitherto been in descriptive form only.
