Cognitively gifted children and humor: the phenomenon of "pranks"

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the prank phenomenon in the context of humor and cognitive talent in children. The aim was to find out, whether there are differences between cognitively gifted children (N = 79) and control group (N = 119) in the perception of prank as a humorous stimulus. Participants were 9-15 years old. With the SHQ-6-R questionnaire, we measured the level of sense of humor. Subsequently, we presented six video pranks that were evaluated by the participants on semantic differential scales. Another goal of the thesis was to find out what information participants have about pranks, what is their experience, what they consider and do not consider to be humorous and what decides, whether they will decide to perform a prank. We presented another video prank to the participants and asked them to answer the open questions in the questionnaire. The results showed that there was no difference in the sense of humor evaluation between the group of gifted children and the control group. There are statistically significant differences in the perception of pranks between groups. Gifted children tend to evaluate pranks more negatively. Differences are more common in more sophisticated and extreme pranks. We have categorized the answers to the open questions.

Diplomová práca je zameraná na fenomén prankov v kontexte humoru a kognitívneho nadania u detí. Cieľom bolo zistiť, či vo vnímaní prankov ako humorných podnetov existujú rozdiely medzi kognitívne nadanými deťmi (N=79) a kontrolnou skupinou (N=119). Participanti boli vo veku 9-15 rokov. Dotazníkom SHQ-6-R sme zisťovali úroveň zmyslu pre humor. Následne sme prezentovali šesť video prankov, ktoré participanti hodnotili na dvanástich škálach sémantického diferenciálu. Ďalším cieľom práce bolo zistiť, aké informácie participanti o prankoch majú, aké s nimi majú skúsenosti, čo považujú a nepovažujú na prankoch za humorné a čo rozhoduje o tom, či prank zrealizujú. Participantom sme prezentovali ďalší video prank a v dotazníku odpovedali na otvorené otázky. Výsledky ukázali, že medzi skupinou nadaných detí a kontrolnou skupinou nie sú rozdiely v hodnotení zmyslu pre humor. Medzi skupinami existujú štatisticky významné rozdiely vo vnímaní prankov. Nadané deti majú tendenciu celkovo hodnotiť pranky negatívnejšie. Rozdiely sú častejšie pri sofistikovanejších a extrémnejších prankoch. Odpovede na otvorené otázky sme kategorizovali.
