Prevention of skin and mucosal damage in connection with the provision of intensive nursing care

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zejména problematikou péče o kůži a sliznice u pacientů se zavedenou nasogastrickou sondou a tématem dekubitů vzniklých v souvislosti se zdravotnickými prostředky. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a empirickou. V teoretické části práce jsou nejprve popsány pomůcky, které jsou nejčastější příčinou poškození kůže a sliznic. Dále se práce zaměřuje na nasogastrickou sondu, jako jednu z nejčastějších pomůcek, která poškození kůže a sliznic způsobuje. V poslední kapitole teoretické části je specifikována prevence poškození kůže a sliznic vzniklé v souvislosti se zdravotnickými prostředky. Empirická část je založena na kvantitativním výzkumu pomocí originálních dotazníkových formulářů. Cílem studie je zjistit, jakým způsobem pečují všeobecné sestry na pracovištích intenzivní péče a standardních odděleních o pacienty se zavedenou nasogastrickou sondou, zejména jakým způsobem pečují o kůži a sliznice při zavedené nasogastrické sondě. Průzkumem bylo zjištěno, že respondenti na standardních odděleních používají častěji hromadně vyráběné fixace než respondenti na odděleních intenzivní péče. Dále bylo zjištěno, že nejvíce respondentů, jak na standardních odděleních, tak na odděleních intenzivní péče neuvádí využívání prostředků k odstranění fixace nasogastrické sondy z kůže pacienta. Na základě zjištěných nedostatků bylo vytvořeno doporučení pro praxi, které je určeno pro všeobecné sestry v klinické praxi, zaměřující se zejména na prevenci vzniku nežádoucích událostí a poškození kůže a tkání u pacientů se zavedenou nasogastrickou sondou.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis is composed of the topics of care of skin and mucous membranes of patients with nasogastric tube and nasogastric-tube related pressure injures. The thesis is divided into two parts – the theoretical and the empirical part. In the theoretical part are described medical utilities which are the most common causes of injures to skin and mucous membranes. The thesis further describes nasogastric tube as one of the medical utilities that causes the most injuries to skin and mucous membranes. The last chapter of the theoretical part specifies prevention of injures to skin and mucous membranes caused by medical utilities. The empirical part comprises of quantitative research based on the questionnaire. The aim of the research is to find out what are the ways general nurses care for patients with nasogastric tube in standard wards and in intensive care units, in detail the care of skin and mucous membranes of patients with nasogastric tube. The survey found that respondents in standard wards use industry produced adhesive tapes more often than respondents in intensive care. Furthermore, it was found that most of respondents in standard wards and in intensive care units do not use any products to remove the adhesive tape of the nasogastric tube out of patient’s skin. On the basic of the discovered deficiencies a recommendation for nurses in clinical care was made, focusing on the prevention of skin and mucous membrane injuries in patients with nasogastric tube.
