Analysis and comparison of alternative economic indicators and their development in 2011-2021

Abstract:

Cílem práce je prostřednictvím analýzy alternativních ekonomických ukazatelů, jejich konstrukcí a metodik verifikovat hypotézu, že alternativní ukazatele mohou doplňovat ukazatele mainstreamové, ale nemohou je zcela nahradit. Mezi analyzované alternativní ukazatele práce zahrnuje Global Peace Index tvořený Institutem pro ekonomii a mír, Better Life Index vytvořený Organizací pro hospodářskou spolupráci a rozvoj a index Rushin, který vytvořila Česká národní banka v období pandemie Covid-19. V teoretické části autor vymezuje používané termíny jako hospodářský růst, ekonomický rozvoj, ekonomická aktivita či životní úroveň a shrnuje stav poznání a přístupů vybraných ekonomických škol k hospodářskému růstu a jeho zdroje. V praktické části autor analyzuje vybrané alternativní ukazatele a komparuje je s klasickými ukazateli HDP, HPH a HDI. Na základě dostupných dat a vytvořené SWOT analýzy se hypotézu podařilo verifikovat.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is through analysis of alternative economic indicators, their constructions and methodologies to verify the hypothesis that alternative indicators can complement mainstream indicators, but they cannot completely replace them. The alternative indicators in this thesis include the Global Peace Index formed by the Institute for Economics and Peace, the Better Life Index created by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Rushin Index created by the Czech National Bank during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the theoretical part, the author defines the used terms such as economic growth, economic development, economic activity or standard of living and summarizes the state of knowledge and approaches of selected economic schools on economic growth and its sources. In the practical part, the author analyzes selected alternative indicators and compares them with mainstream indicators such as GDP, GVA and HDI. Based on the available data and the SWOT analysis, the hypothesis was verified.
