Hydrothermal alteration of yttrialite-(Y); natural versus experimental trends.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá nízkoteplotní alterací yttrialitu, se snahou najít hlavní trendy a rozdíly mezi experimentální a přírodní alterací tohoto minerálu. Dále popisuje a charakterizuje produkty alterací samotných. První část práce je zaměřena především na granitické pegmatity, jejich klasifikaci, proces metamiktizace a hlavní silikáty REE. Druhá část je věnována popisu a charakteristice yttrialitu a jednotlivým experimentům. Nejprve byla provedena experimentální alterace, kdy po dobu 30 dnů a teplotě 200°C byly vzorky v interakci s vybranými roztoky – 0,5M CaCl2, NaF, Na2CO3; 0,1M H3PO4; 1M HF, H3PO4. Vzorky byly následně podrobeny analýzám na elektronové mikrosondě, skenovacím elektronovém mikroskopu a Ramanově spektroskopu U vzorku, který interagoval s 0,5M roztokem CaCl2, nedošlo k žádným morfologickým ani chemickým změnám. U experimentu interagujího s 0,5M roztokem NaF došlo v oblasti alteračního lemu ke vzniku fluoridů, jejichž složení se blíží NaY3F10. Na povrchu vykrystalizovaly drobné snopkovité agregáty aegirinu nabohaceného o Sc. Vzorek alterovaný 0,5M roztokem Na2CO3 vykazoval výrazně nižší obsahy SiO2 než nealterovaný yttrialit. Vznikly zde karbonáty Na a REE, které se nepodařilo, vzhledem k jejich mikroskopickým rozměrům, blíže identifikovat. U vzorku, který byl vystaven působení 0,1M roztoku H3PO4 došlo ke krystalizaci xenotimu, kdy byl téměř všechen SiO2 uvolněn do roztoku. 1M roztok HF byl velmi agresivní a došlo k velmi silné alteraci zrn a novotvořené fáze, která odpovídá složením (Y+REE)F3. Poslední vzorek interagoval s 1M roztokem H3PO4, kdy na povrchu byla identifikována Fe, P bohatá vrstva. Následovala vrstva fosfátů (Y+REE)PO4 odpovídající xenotimu, kdy téměř všechno Si bylo uvolněno do roztoku. Uprostřed zrn zůstal zachován původní yttrialit.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with low-temperature alteration of yttrialite, with the aim to find the main trends and differences between experimental and natural alteration of this mineral. This thesis also describes and characterizes the products of alterations the themselves. The first part of the thesis is focused mainly on granite pegmatites and their classification, process of metamictization, and main silicates of REE. The second part of thesis describes and characterizes yttrialite and individual experiments. At first an experimental alteration was performed for 30 days and 200°C with selected solutions – 0,5M CaCl2, NaF, Na2CO3; 0,1M H3PO4; 1M HF, H3PO4. Then the samples were subjected analyses of electron microanalysis, scanning electron microscope, and Raman spectroscopy. No morphological and chemical changes have occurred in the sample, which reacted with the 0,5M CaCl2 solution. The alteration edges of sample reacting with 0,5M solution of NaF corresponded with NaF3Y10. Aegirine crystals enriched with Sc crystallized on the surface. The sample altered with 0,5M Na2CO3 showed lower levels of SiO2 than unaltered yttrialite. Carbonates of Na and REE were formed there, due to their microscopic size, which have not been further identified. Crystallization of xenotime appeared in a sample subjected to 0,1M solution of H3PO4. Nearly all of the SiO2 was released into the solution. 1M HF solution was very aggressive. Grains and newly-created phases were changed completely. These correspond to the composition of (Y+REE)F3. Iron and phosphorus rich layers were identified on the surface of the sample, which was interacted with 1M solution of H3PO4. The second layer was layer of phosphates of Y, correspond with xenotime, when almost all Si was released into the solution. The original yttrialite remained in the middle of the grains
