The Represenatation of Family in the Selected Czech and German Magazines

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá mechanismy reprezentace rodiny v českém magazínu Betynka a jeho německém protějšku Familie&Co. Tato média byla vybrána záměrně, aby identifikovala podobnosti a odlišnosti v mediálním obrazu středoevropské rodiny na přelomu tisíciletí. Kombinací metody obsahové analýzy a interpretativního čtení se pokouší charakterizovat editoriální postupy při deskripci rodinného soužití a legitimizační strategie konstruující mediální obraz české a německé rodiny. Kvantitativní část výzkumu exponuje analýzu rodinné typologie, rodinných rolí a identifikaci rozličných postupů legitimizačních strategií, jež nabízejí komparaci redakčních a expertních preferencí a tvorbu mediálního obrazu krize rodiny. Každou kapitolu doprovází diskursivní strategie odhalující konkrétní narativní postupy, jejichž prostřednictvím je mediální obraz rodiny konstruován. Komparací jsme stanovili společné rysy, v nichž periodika preferují funkční, ideální nukleární rodinu. Analýza poukázala na rozdílnosti ve využívání legitimizačních mechanismů, v nichž Betynka obhajovala instituci rodiny redakčními legitimizačními procedurami a poukazováním na obraz rodiny v krizi, zatímco Familie&Co léčil dysfunkční rodinu prostřednictvím rozličných expertů.

Abstract:

The presented thesis is focused on the mechanisms of family representation in the Czech magazine Betynka and in its German counterpart Familie&Co. These media were intentionally chosen to identify the similarities and differences in the picture of the central European family on the turn of the millenium shown by the media. Employing a combination of methods including content analysis and interpretative reading, it aims to characterize editorial procedures dealing with the description of family coexistence and the legitimization strategies constructing the media picture of the Czech and German family. The quantitative part of the research presents family typology and family role analysis and also identification of various legitimization strategy approaches, offering editorial and expert preference comparison and showing the media picture of a family crisis. Each chapter is accompanied by a discursive strategy unveiling specific narrative approaches, by means of which the media picture of family is formed. By comparison, similar characteristics were stated, in which the periodicals prefer functional, ideally nuclear family. The differences pointed to variations in the use of legitimization strategies, in which Betynka advocated the institution of family by editorial legitimization procedures and adverting to the picture of a family crisis, whereas Familie&Co treated a dysfunctional family by means of various experts. Abstract Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Repräsentation der Familie in der tschechischen Zeitschrift Betynka und in der deutschen Zeitschrift Familie&Co. Diese Medien wurden bewusst ausgewählt, um Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede in der Darstellung der mitteleuropäischen Familie in den Medien zu bestimmen. Wir kombinierten die Methode der Inhaltsanalyse und des interpretatorischen Lesens und versuchten das Editionsverfahren bei der Deskription des Familienlebens sowie die Legitimationsstrategien zu charakterisieren, die das Bild der tschechischen und deutschen Familie konstruieren. Der quantitative Teil der Forschung betont die Analyse der Familientypologie, der Familienrollen und der Identifizierung anhand verschiedener Vorgehensweisen der Legitimationsstrategien, die den Vergleich der Ansichten der Redaktion mit der Meinung der Experten sowie das Bild der Familienkrise in den Medien zeigen. Anhand der Diskursivstrategie wird in jedem Kapitel das konkrete narrative Verfahren ermittelt, anhand dessen das Bild der Familie in den Medien konstruiert wird. Anhand des Vergleichs bestimmten wir gemeinsame Wesensmerkmale, in denen das Bild einer funktionellen, idealen Kernfamilie bevorzugt wird. Die Unterschiede verwiesen auf Differenzen in den Legitimationsmechanismen. Während Betynka die Familieninstitution mit der Legitimationsprozedur durch die Redaktion und der Familienkrise verteidigte, griff Familie&Co bei der disfunktionellen Familie auf die Meinungen unterschiedlicher Experten zurück.
