Intercultural Communicative Competence Development in Writing in English

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce se zabývá tématem rozvíjení interkulturní komunikační kompetence v psaní v anglickém jazyce. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí, tedy části teoretické a empirické. Teoretická část prezentuje interkulturní komunikační kompetenci jako cíl současné výuky cizích jazyků. Představena jsou zde rovněž teoretická východiska dané problematiky. Definovány jsou tedy pojmy interkulturní komunikační kompetence a psaní jako řečová dovednost. Dále je vymezen také jejich vzájemný vztah. Přestaveny jsou zde rovněž výzkumy provedené v 21. století s cílem rozvíjet interkulturní komunikační kompetenci v jazykovém vzdělávání. Empirická část se věnuje akčnímu výzkumu, který byl realizován v devátém ročníku základní školy přímo ve výuce. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda (a pokud ano, jak) se rozvíjení interkulturní komunikační kompetence šestnácti žáků projevilo v psaní v anglickém jazyce. Zjišťováno bylo mj. to, jaký vliv měla na rozvíjení interkulturní komunikační kompetence žáků intervence, jež byla součástí výzkumu. Představena je zde metodologie výzkumu, jeho průběh a výzkumná zjištění, která prokázala, že prostřednictvím provedené intervence bylo možné rozvíjet interkulturní komunikační kompetenci žáků. V závěru jsou shrnuty didaktické implikace, jak interkulturní komunikační kompetenci rozvíjet i nadále v praxi školy, kde byl akční výzkum proveden.

Abstract:

This doctoral thesis deals with developing intercultural communicative competence in writing in English. The thesis is divided into two parts, i.e. a theoretical one and an empirical one. The theoretical part introduces intercultural communicative competence as an aim of contemporary foreign language teaching and learning processes. Theoretical background of the discussed topic is introduced here as well. Thus, the terms of intercultural communicative competence and writing as a language skill are defined here. Their mutual relationship is consequently conceptualised. Research aimed at developing intercultural communicative competence in foreign language teaching and learning, which was conducted in the 21st century, is also introduced here. The empirical part deals with action research, which was conducted in the ninth grade of lower-secondary school directly in class. The aim of the research was to examine whether (and if so, how) intercultural communicative competence development of sixteen examined pupils was manifested in writing in English. It was, among others, examined in which way an intervention, which was a part of the research, influenced pupils’ intercultural communicative competence development. Used methodology, the process of investigation and research outcomes proving that it was possible to develop pupils’ intercultural communicative competence via the intervention are introduced here. In conclusion, didactic implications how to further develop intercultural communicative competence at school, where the action research was conducted, are summarised here.
