Postnatal Changes in Palmar Dermatoglyphics

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on postnatal changes in palmar dermatoglyphics. The main aim of the practical part was to describe the age-related changes in palmar epidermal surface. Length and breadth measurements and one angle defined by palmar triradii on images of human hand obtained by standardized method of scanning were studied on the sample consisted of 237 participants (120 females and 117 males) between the ages of 6 and 15 years. Mean epidermal ridge breadth in the area of distal triradius a was studied in 166 participants (83 females and 85 males). In both sexes, significant positive correlation was observed between all length and breadth measurements and age; more pronounced increase was found in length than in breadth and tended to descent in radio-ulnar direction. Significant decrease in the size of atd angle with increasing age was revealed in females, but only minimal decrease in males. However, there was significant bilateral asymmetry in males with larger atd angle on the left side. With increasing age there was significant increase in the size of mean epidermal ridge breadth in the area of distal triradius a in both sexes, but with opposite direction of asymmetry – in males, higher values were observed on the left hand, whereas in females on the right hand.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje studiu postnatálnych změn v dermatoglyfice dlaně. Hlavním cílem praktické části práce bylo zjistit, jak se mění papilární terén dlaně v závislosti na věku. Studovány byly délkové, šířkové a úhlové míry definovány pomocí dlaňových trirádií na naskenovaných standardizovaných snímcích rukou 237 jedincov (120 žen a 117 mužů) ve věku od 6 do 15 let. U 166 jedinců (83 žen a 85 mužů) byla hodnocená také průměrná šířka papilárních linií v oblasti distálního trirádia a. Ve všech délkových a šířkových rozměrech byla u obou pohlaví zjištěna významná pozitivní závislost na věku, přičemž dlaň se výrazněji prodlužovala, než rozšiřovala, a to s klesající tendencí radioulnárním směrem. Velikost atd úhlu s věkem klesala, přičemž tyto změny byly výraznější u žen a jen minimální u mužů. U mužů však byly zjištěny významné stranové rozdíly – velikost atd úhlu byla v průměru větší na levé ruce. Průměrná šířka papilárních linií při trirádiu a se s věkem zvyšovala u obou pohlaví, avšak v odlišném směru z hlediska stranových rozdílů. Zatímco u mužů byla průměrná šířka papilárních linií větší na levé ruce, u žen byla větší na pravé ruce.
