Decoration of sala terrena in chateau Kroměříž

Abstract:

Sala terrena byla zbudována v zahradním křídle zámku v Kroměříži na přelomu 80.a 90.let 17.století. Stavebníkem byl olomoucký biskup Karel z Lichtensteina-Castellkornu, architekt Giovanno Pietro Tencalla. Koncept výzdoby byl zadán programátoru Martinu A. Lublinskému. Autorem bohatého štukového dekoru byl Baldasare Fontana,původem ze severní Itálie. Fontana působil dlouhodobě na Moravě a v Polsku.Jeho krajan, malíř Paolo Pagani, zhotovil nástropní fresky. Z monumentální sochařské výzdoby byl připsán podíl pouze sochaři J.K.Dieussard, kromě výzdoby grot vytvořil sochy v mozaikovém sále. Vymezuje se program výzdoby a použité umělecké prostředky v grotě a sala terreně. Námět výzdoby odkazuje kroměřížskou sala terrenu k inspiračnímu zdroji těchto sálů, grotám. Klasické prostředky malířství, sochařství, architektury, stejně jako půdorysná, prostorová dispozice, řadí sala terrenu k reprezentačním slavnostním sálům barokní rezidence.

Abstract:

Sala terrena was built in the second half of the eighties of the seventeenth century. It was ordered by the bishop of Olomouc Karel from Lichtenstein-Castellkorn, who was in charge of his office from 1664 to 1695. Antonín Martin Lublinský , a painter from Olomouc, was entrusted with drawing the concept of the decor. The main themes of the decor are the seasons of a year and a symbolic image of the time. Lublinský was also the author of a drawing of the sculptural decorations, which was based on the antique literature of Ovidius (Metamorphosae) and Vergilius (Bucolica, Georgica).Among the sculptors, who worked in s. t., we can for a certanity identify J.K. Dieussard. The other sculptors probably came from Salzburg. The stuke decorations of sala terrena rooms were carried out by b.f. His work is distinguished by a flowing and sliding ways of performance with dissipating countours and an absence of endeavour for a symetric composition.The ornament contains factual, organic and vegetative forms like acanth,clusters of fruit, bunches, fringes, laurel motives, leafage, ripped and indistinct countours(which we can find e.g on the dolphin tails , unfinished countours of the perianth general substitution of abstract decorations by organic shapes, which support reciprocial connectin function of the decor. Fontana is an author of the rich decoration of the dome and also of the plain and simple conception of the walls. The decorations of sala terrena were the first corporate work of a plasterer Fontana and a painter Pagani, who made the roof fresco paintings there. In the central hall the main motive is a celebration of a bishop and his office.In the lateral halls the motive is an allegory of the seasons of a year represented by the zodiac signs.Pagani fresco compositions are similar to the principle of painting of the dome called panorama . He had created assorted kinetic variations of nude bodies, which execute complicated processes. Paganis giants are painted from a view of a perpective contraction , which is highlited by the low roofs of the halls. The colour scheme is warm in the ochre tones.The painter`s and sculptural decorations of sala terrena illustrate that it had been ranked among the prestige halls of baroque residence.
