The analysis of Hesse's works with regard to psychoanalytic aesthetics

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce si klade za cíl interpretovat sen v románech Hermanna Hesse. Úvodem se práce zaměřuje na vztah psychoanalýzy a literárního díla, poté zmapuje vznik a stěžejní představitele psychoanalytické literární vědy. Následně ozřejmí tvorbu Hermanna Hesse, v níž figuruje psychoanalýza jako jeden ze základních aspektů jeho pozdně expresionistické tvorby. Práce pokračuje interpretací snů v románech Stepní vlk a Demian. Pokusí se nalézt v těchto snech smysl a objasní způsoby užití psychoanalýzy v těchto snech. Jako nástroj pro interpretaci bude zvoleno Jungovo pojetí snů. Na základě těchto poznatků bude reflektováno, nakolik jsou sny nápomocny při cestě hrdiny k individuaci.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to interpret the concept of dream in Hermann Hesse’s novels. The introduction is focused on the relationship between psychoanalysis and literary work, then it maps the origin and the main representatives of psychoanalytic literary science. Later on it explains Hermann Hesse’s work, in which the psychoanalysis represents one of the fundamental aspects of his late-expressionist period. The thesis is then focused on the interpretation of dreams in novels Steppenwolf and Demian. It attempts to find the sense of these dreams and to explain the psychoanalysis methods and their application on the dreams. Jung’s concept of dreams will be used as a mean of the interpretation. Based on these findings, the importance of dreams in the hero’s way to individualization will be defined.
