Proposal for further development of the e-learning platform, focusing on user motivation in learning programming

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou ukončení studia uživatelů e-learningových platforem z hlediska motivace. S rostoucím počtem nabízených vzdělávacích online kurzů roste poptávka po programování. Kurzy lákají lidi s různou úrovní znalostí a motivací. Je důležité věnovat pozornost motivaci uživatelů a prozkoumat způsoby, jak ji zlepšit, aby bylo zajištěno dlouhodobé, systematické a efektivní učení. Platforma Hyperskill, na které je studie založena, má dobrou návštěvnost webu, ale většina uživatelů po registraci nepokračuje v učení na platformě. Na základě dat poskytnutých platformou byla provedena analýza chování uživatelů, kteří odešli a zůstali první den po registraci na platformě. Motivace je důležitou složkou pro dlouhodobé a efektivní učení. Jako měřítko motivace uživatelů je vybrán Kellerův motivační model, který se skládá z prvků jako pozornost, relevance, důvěra a spokojenost. Na základě tohoto modelu byl proveden průzkum a rozhovory s uživateli, kteří přestali platformu používat, a s členem týmu platformy. Tato práce poskytuje návrhy na další kroky platformy ke zlepšení míry retence uživatelů na základě analyzovaných dat.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the issue of graduation of users of e-learning platforms in terms of motivation. With the increasing number of educational online courses offered, the demand for programming is growing. Courses attract people with different levels of knowledge and motivation. It is important to pay attention to the motivation of users and explore ways to improve it in order to ensure long-term, systematic and effective learning. The Hyperskill platform on which the study is based has good web traffic, but most users do not continue learning on the platform after registration. Based on the data provided by the platform, an analysis of the behavior of users who left and stayed on the first day after registration on the platform. Motivation is an important component for long and effective learning. As a measure of the motivation of users, the Keller motivation model is chosen, which consists of elements such as, attention, relevance, trust and satisfaction. Based on this model, we conducted research and interviews with users who stopped using the platform and with a member of the platform team. This work provides suggestions for the next steps of the platform to improve user retention rates based on the analyzed data.
