"Operation of the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814" The author of the thesis deals with the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814. In the introduction part, he summarizes the current state of a research of the chosen topic. He states that the topic has not been properly researched. In the first chapter, the author focuses on the military health system of the Austrian Imperial Army. He describes its development from the beginning of Maria Theresa reign (1740) to the Napoleonic wars (1803-1815). In the second chapter, the author researches the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814, especially from the organizational and system point of view. In the third chapter of the thesis, the author researched the issue of the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814 from the perspective of historical statistics. He uses, as a basis for this survey, a summary report about the status of all main field hospitals in Moravia for the whole period of their existence.

Anotácia:

Autor se v disertační práci zabývá hlavními polními nemocnicemi na Moravě v letech 1813-1814. V úvodní části shrnuje dosavadní stav zkoumání zvoleného tématu. Konstatuje, že téma doposud nebylo řádně zpracováno. Následuje vlastní výzkum, který je rozdělen do tří hlavních kapitol. V první kapitole se autor věnuje vojenskému zdravotnímu systému rakouské císařské armády. Popisuje jeho vývoj od počátku vlády Marie Terezie (1740) až do napoleonských válek (1803-1815). Hlavním cílem první kapitoly je ukázat, že rakouská armáda měla během napoleonských válek systematickou a organizovanou zdravotní službu. Autor demonstruje, jakou roli v systému zdravotního zabezpečení rakouské armády hrály vojenské hlavní polní nemocnice. V první kapitole, která je vytvořena převážně na základě tištěných pramenů, zahraniční odborné literatury a pramenů z Rakouského státního archivu, autor zasazuje problematiku hlavních polních nemocnic do širšího teoretického rámce. V druhé kapitole autor zkoumá hlavní polní nemocnice na Moravě v letech 1813-1814, a to především po organizační a systémové stránce. Ukazuje, že během sledovaného období byla postupně v nemocnicích vykonávána dvojí správa, vojenská a civilní. Autor se věnuje veškerému personálu, který v každé nemocnici působil. Na základě archivních pramenů dokazuje, že v nemocnicích působili jak příslušníci armády, tak civilisté. Autor podrobně pojednává o platech zaměstnanců v nemocnicích a vysvětluje, proč civilní pracovníci dostávali vyšší plat než příslušníci armády. Dále je v druhé kapitole věnována velká pozornost každodenním, běžným záležitostem v nemocnicích. Autor popisuje, jakým způsobem se nemocní a ranění vojáci do nemocnice přijímali a jak se třídili a ukládali na základě stanovené diagnózy. Zabývá se stravováním pacientů, vysvětluje, jakým způsobem si nemocnice obstarávaly zásoby potravin, nápojů, léků, lůžkovin prádla a dalších věcí, které pro řádný chod potřebovaly. Autor v druhé kapitole dále vysvětluje, jaké úkoly v nemocnici plnili vojenští kaplani a civilní duchovní. Druhá kapitola představuje stěžejní část celé disertační práce. Veškerý výzkum v této části práce je postaven výhradně na důkladné analýze archivních pramenů. V třetí kapitole disertační práce autor zkoumá problematiku hlavních polních nemocnic na Moravě v letech 1813-1814 z pohledu historické statistiky. Jako podklad pro tento výzkum využívá souhrnného hlášení o stavu všech hlavních polních nemocnic na Moravě za celou dobu jejich existence. Autor dokazuje, že na základě pramenného materiálu není možné určit přesný počet osob léčených v nemocnicích, a uvádí, proč tomu tak je. Následně analyzuje skladbu pacientů podle jejich příslušnosti k bojujícím armádám. Dále uvádí počet vyléčených osob a počet pacientů, kteří v nemocnicích zemřeli, včetně jejich skladby ve vztahu k bojujícím armádám. Velkou pozornost věnuje také pacientům, kteří z nemocnic utekli, a úmrtnosti v nemocnicích ve vztahu k roční době. V závěru třetí kapitoly autor porovnává úspěšnost léčby a úmrtnost pacientů ve vojenských hlavních polních nemocnicích s hlavními polními nemocnicemi pod civilní správou. Autor všechna své tvrzení řádně vysvětluje a dokládá grafy a tabulkami s údaji. Disertační práce obsahuje veškeré náležitosti, konkrétně úvod, závěr, poznámkový aparát, seznam použitých pramenů a literatury, seznam grafů, seznam tabulek, obrazovou přílohu a seznam obrazové přílohy.

Abstract:

The author of the thesis deals with the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814. In the introduction part, he summarizes the current state of a research of the chosen topic. He states that the topic has not been properly researched. In the first chapter, the author focuses on the military health system of the Austrian Imperial Army. He describes its development from the beginning of Maria Theresa reign (1740) to the Napoleonic wars (1803-1815). The main aim of the first chapter is to demonstrate that the Austrian Imperial Army had a systematic and organized medical service during the Napoleonic wars. The author explains what role played the military main field hospitals in the system of medical service of the Austrian Imperial Army. In the first chapter, which is written mainly on the basis of printed sources, foreign expert literature and sources from the Austrian State Archives, the author places the topic of the main field hospitals in a broader theoretical framework In the second chapter, the author researches the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814, especially from the organizational and system point of view. He shows that dual management, military and civil, was gradually practised in the hospitals during the observed period. The author describes all staff that worked in every hospital. Based on the survey, he proves that both the members of the army and civilians worked in the hospitals. The author discusses in details a salary of the personnel in the hospitals and explains why civilians earned more money than the members of the army. The second chapter is focused on everyday common activities in the hospitals. The author describes how the sick and wounded soldiers were received to the hospitals and how they were classified and placed according to a determined diagnosis. He deals with patients´ nourishment, how the hospitals procured food, beverages, drugs or bed linen supplies and other things which were needed for proper hospital functioning. In the second chapter, the author explains what tasks military chaplains and civilian priests fulfilled in the hospitals. The second chapter presents the main part of the whole thesis. All survey of this thesis part is built exclusively on a thorough analysis of archival sources. In the third chapter of the thesis, the author researched the issue of the main field hospitals in Moravia in 1813-1814 from the perspective of historical statistics. He uses, as a basis for this survey, a summary report about the status of all main field hospitals in Moravia for the whole period of their existence. Based on the source material, the author proves that it is impossible to determine the exact number of people treated in the hospitals, and he stated why this is so. Subsequently he analyses the composition of the patients according to their belonging to the fighting armies. He also states the number of cured people and the number of patients who died in the hospitals, including their belonging related to the fighting armies. He pays the attention to the patients who escaped from the hospitals, and the mortality in the hospital related to the time of year. At the end of the third chapter, the author compares the success in treatment and mortality of the patients in the military main field hospitals with the main field hospitals under the civilian management. The author properly explains all his statements and he supports those using graphs and tables with data. The thesis contains all necessities, more specifically the introduction, conclusion, notes, list of sources and literature, list of graphs, list of tables, picture attachment and list of the picture attachment.
