Remuneration Schemes for Individual Prosumers in the EU – understanding the comparison of clustering results

Anotácia:

The transition to a renewable-based low-carbon future from fossil fuels creates a new role for citizens, from passive energy consumers to active participants of the transition – so-called renewable energy prosumers. The recent energy policies under Clean Energy Package call for the standardisation of the participation of prosumers in the energy market in each member state. The research compares clustering results between the regulatory frameworks of eleven Eastern European countries: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Romania. The goal is to reveal the main legislative challenges they face to let individual prosumers be active participants in the electricity market. The results indicate that the current legislature allows self-consumption in all countries, but Poland has a more favourable legislature. The study shows a need for a significant improvement in Eastern EU members to let self-consumers maximise the benefits of self-generation.
