Field dependence in relation to personality traits in the Humanities and IT

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumala vliv míry závislosti na poli na osobnostní charakteristiky mezi muži s humanitním (49) a IT zaměřením (51). Vzorek tvořili jak studenti, tak pracující muži v rozmezí 19–35 let. Administrací skupinové formy Embedded-Figures Testu jsem vzorek rozdělila na muže závislé, středně závislé a nezávislé na poli. Poté jsem hledala korelaci mezi těmito skupinami a škálami dotazníku IHAVEZ, který je zaměřen na zjišťování psychické odolnosti a variability osobnosti. Při mezioborovém porovnávání skórovali jedinci z IT oborů průměrně o bod lépe, nevyšly však statisticky významné rozdíly. Statisticky významná souvislost byla nalezena mezi mírou závislosti na poli a škálami sebejistoty, úzkostnosti, emocionality a účinné kapacity rozumu. Další průkazné rozdíly vyplynuly při porovnávání osobnostních charakteristik s druhem oboru, nebyly však nalezeny škály, které by byly ovlivňovány mírou závislosti na poli i oborem zaměření současně.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the effect of the level of field dependence-independence of personality characteristics among men with humanity (49) and IT focus (51). The sample consisted of both students and working men in the 19-35 age range. By administering the group form of Embedded Figures Test, I divided the sample into male field dependent, medium dependent and field independent. Then I sought a correlation between these groups and the IHAVEZ questionnaire, which is focused on detecting psychological resistance and personality variability. In the interdisciplinary comparison, individuals from IT group scored on average point more, but statistically significant differences did not occur. A statistically significant link has been found between the degree of field dependence and the scales of self-confidence, anxiety, emotionality, and effective intelligence capacities. Further prominent differences have emerged in comparing personality characteristics between the groups, but no scales have been found that would be influenced by level of field dependence and the field of focus at the same time.
