The Czech Reportage Photograph in the 21st Century: Aesthetic and Ethical Criteria of its Evaluation

Abstract:

Tématem magisterské diplomové práce jsou estetická a etická kritéria hodnocení reportážní fotografie od vzniku fotografického média po současnou reportážní praxi. Práce obsahuje stručný přehled názorů českých i světových teoretiků umění a nových médií, bere v potaz práce významných fotografů, z čehož následně za podpory teoretických tezí i reálné světové fotografické tvorby vytyčuje kritéria hodnocení české reportážní fotografie 21. století. Kritéria, podle nichž je fotografický obraz posuzován, prošla určitým vývojem po dobu jeho existence jako analogového média a podlehla určitým změnám s příchodem digitalizace fotografie. Stav reportážní fotografie je demonstrován v médiích a ve fotografické soutěži Czech Press Photo. Na základě jednotlivých kapitol jsou vytyčena jednotlivá kritéria estetická i etická.

Abstract:

The subject matter of the thesis is to describe aesthetic and ethical criteria of evaluation of a reportage photograph from its creation till the contemporary photographic practice. This thesis concerns with a brief summary of the Czech and the world art or new media theorists, further deals with works of important photographers, the theoretical base and a worldwide photographic creation, identifies criteria of the Czech reportage photograph evaluation in the 21st century. Criteria, according to which the photograph is evaluated, have undergone some development during its existence as an analogous medium and yielded to changes with the arrival of the digitizing of photographs. The state of the contemporary reportage photograph is shown in the media and also in the Czech Press Photo competition.
