The simultaneous use of two alcohols in transesterification

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na současné využití ethanolu a butanolu pro transesterifikaci za bazické katalýzy. Výhoda použití směsi dvou alkoholů spočívá v homogenitě reakční směsi. V literární rešerši byla věnována pozornost popisu transesterifikace, jejím vstupním surovinám (alkoholy a oleje), možnostem katalýzy reakce (zmíněny jednotlivé druhy katalyzátorů včetně výhod a nevýhod) a fázovým rovnováhám omezeně mísitelných kapalin. Nejprve byl změřen ternární diagram systému olej:ethanol:butanol za účelem zjištění binodální křivky. Následně byla provedena transesterifikace s molárním poměrem olej:ethanol:butanol 1:7:3,5. Z výsledků bylo zjištěno, že konverze dosahuje 96-98 % za 120 min a teploty 25°C. Bohužel výsledný ester má velmi vysoký obsah draselných iontů.

Abstract:

This study is focused on the use of ethanol and butanol together at transesterification under basic catalysis. The advantage of use two alcohols together is the homogenity of the reaction mixture. The transesterification, the raw material for transesterification (alcohols and oils), the possibilities of catalysis (mentioned types of catalysts including their advantages and disadvantages) and the phase equilibrium of limited miscible liquids was described in the literary section. In the experimental section, the ternary diagram of system oil:ethanol:butanol was determined. The transesterification with molar ratio oil:ethanol:butanol 1:7:3,5 (the mixture is homogeneous) was carry out. The results show that the conversion was about 96-98% in 120 min at 25°C. Unfortunately, a very high potassium ion content was found in the ester phase.
