Homonyms, Oronyms and Mondegreens

Abstract:

The topic of my undergraduate thesis is Homonyms, Oronyms and Mondegreens. The focus is specifically on Mondegreens. The first chapters cover the definitions of these terms, their etymology, usage in everyday world etc., with their appropriate examples. The research is about how often Mondegreens happen, why and if most people can hear them or not, specifically in regard of songs. In addition to that, the thesis contains the factors which influence the creation of Mondegreens, e.g. in songs did the singer slightly mispronounce the words? Mondegreens are a sort of aural malapropism. Instead of saying the wrong word, you hear the wrong word. The word Mondegreen is generally used for misheard song lyrics, although technically it can apply to any speech. The main part is an online questionnaire which contains short parts of songs recordings and the respondents answer what lyrics they heard. The recordings could be repeated only a certain number of times and based on that I came to a conclusion whether this phenomenon is frequent or not.

Téma bakalářské práce je: Homonyma, Oronyma a Mondegreeny. Zaměření konkrétně na Mondegreeny. V prvních kapitolách jsou obsaženy definice těchto pojmů, jejich etymologie a použití společně s příklady v každodenním životě apod. Výzkum je o tom, jak často se Mondegreeny stávají, proč, a jestli je může většina lidí slyšet nebo ne, především v písních. Dále práce obsahuje faktory, které ovlivňují tvorbu Mondegreenů, např. v písních - zda zpěvák nesprávně vyslovil slova písně apod. Mondegreeny jsou druh zvukových malapropismů. Místo toho, že je řekneme špatné slovo, jej slyšíme. Slovo Mondegreen se obecně používá u přeslechnutých textů písní, i když se technicky může vztahovat na libovolný slovní projev. Stať se skládá povětšinou z online dotazníku, který obsahuje krátké části písní - nahrávky - na které respondenti odpověděli, jaké slova písně slyšeli. Nahrávky je možné si znovu poslechnout pouze několikrát a na základě výsledků jsem došla k závěru, zda tento fenomén se vyskutuje často nebo ne.
