The strength of Identity

Abstract:

In my works I have always dealt with my childhood and memories from it. I always like to go back and cherish all those carefree childhood times which were full of games and remarkable adventures. Now, in my adulthood I have time to remind it all with ease, absorb it and benefit from it in my later journeys and visions. I have decided to take on this subject and expand it further in my master thesis. It is revolving around a periods in my life, during summer breaks where I was staying with my grandmothers in Slovakia or at home,in our flat with my parents. I think about it quite frequently. Those are the places, between the mountains, near beautiful nature of central Slovakia. Surrounded by vegetation and various animals with which I could not meet at my home. Alternatively, they were not so widely present in the city where I have lived in. It was the place for the numerous activities, which were made possible by the vastness and freedom of environment at one of my grandmother's place. Big garden with meadow flowers. Big woody fruit shrubs or enormous cherry tree which overhung over the fence to the neighbour's garden. For many, childhood memories are something expendable, something that is always there or they want to forget them and they won't attach not even slightest importance to it. Coming back to these events is very important and they are dear to me. I realize that I cannot fully experience those memories in their whole glory so I have decided to enclose them in form of embroidered paintings that will help me to relive them again. In order to archive the same feelings in my master thesis and to help get close to my most intimate memories I have decided to describe the atmosphere of my childhood by classical folk craftsmanship - embroidery which was passed down on me by one of my grandmothers. With help of eight embroidery circles I try to reflect properties of my memories through colored threads and every one describes one give memory and react to different moments of my childhood. Every one of them contains one story, object, pattern or texture faintly materializing from my past. Thanks to them I have dived into my childhood memories and I was able to touch them, feel them again create authentic feelings inside me.

Abstract:

Vo svojej diplomovej práci sa zaoberám témou sila identity, ktorá je pre mňa úzko spojená s mojimi prežitými spomienkami z detstva, ktoré som väčšinou trávila u babičkách alebo len tak doma. Najčastejšie spomienky mám na moje babičky, ktoré bývajú od seba dosť ďaleko na to, aby som u nich trávila viac ako len pár hodín či jeden krátky víkend. Ich rozdielne prostredie v ktorom bývali, sa samozrejme odzrkadľovalo aj na spôsobe vymýšľania hier a činností, ktorými som sa zamestnávala. Jedna z nich, ktorá býva ďalej od nášho mesta a museli sme k nej dochádzať ale stálo to za to, pretože má krásny dom s príjemnou atmosférou s veľkou záhradu pokrytú lúčnymi kvetinami a krásne mäkkou zelenou trávou. Chodenie bosá po tráve a cítiť kvapky rannej rosy na nohách či chytanie lúčnych koníkov do sklenenej fľaše alebo len tak čľapkanie sa v mojej malej červenej vaničke, to sú momenty, ktoré som si prežila a zostali vo mne dodnes. Pomyslením na ne prežívam emocionálny zážitok, z ktorých si pamätám najviac a prejavujú sa do dnešného života za pomoci rôznych situácii. Buď sú to celé spomienky typu príbehu, alebo si pamätám textúry či vzory na dané okamihy v ktorých sa ta situácia odohrávala. Zväčša so spomienkami sú vyslovene späté nielen vizuálne obrazy ale naopak. Pocity radosti, šťastia dokonca rôzne stupne obľúbených činností v ktorých som sa cítila spokojne, uvoľnene a naplnene. Fakt, že si na tieto okamihy môžem spomenúť a reálne sa do nich vžiť, je mi veľmi vzácny. Počas života som sa už veľa krát pristihla ako mi pripomínali rôzne životné situácie aj keď o pár rokov neskôr. Keď ich prežívam znovu a znovu je to veľmi príjemné a naplňujúce. Charakter spomienok by som chcela priblížiť nielen sebe ale aj divákovi.
