The study and evaluation of biomechanical properties of different types of polypropylene surgical meshes.

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje klinickému použití a testování různých druhů chirurgických polypropylenových sítěk určených k reparaci kýl břišní stěny. V klinické části autor prezentuje výsledky operační léčby pacientů s incizionální kýlou, srovnává soubor pacientů s implantovanou lehkou polypropylenovou síťkou s širokými póry oproti souboru pacientů s implantovanou tradičních těžkou polypropylenovou síťkou. V experimentální části práce jsou prezentovány výsledky testování vybraných vlastností čtyř druhů těžkých a čtyř druhů lehkých polypropylenových sítěk: relativní hmotnost, tloušťka síťky, velikost pórů, elasticita a mez pevnosti. Na základě zjištěných hodnot jsou jednotlivé materiály charakterizovány ve vztahu k předpokládané reakci na cizí těleso, vzniku vazivového přemostění či omezení hybnosti břišní stěny.

Abstract:

The work is focused on the clinical application and testing of various types of polypropylene surgical meshes used for abdominal wall hernia repairs. In the clinical part of the work, the author presents the results of surgical treatment of the patients with incisional hernia comparing a group of patients whom a large porous lightweight polypropylene meshes were implanted with a group of patients with the traditional heavyweight polypropylene meshes. In the experimental part, the results of testing of the selected features of four kinds of heavyweight and four kinds of lightweight polypropylene meshes are presented: the relative weight, thickness of the mesh, pore size, elasticity and tensile strength. On the grounds of the test results, the materials are characterized in relation to the expected foreign body reaction – the development of the bridging effect or the stiff abdomen syndrome.
