Intestinal helminths of Myocastor coypus in Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá celosvětovým problémem šíření invazních druhů a riziky, které tyto druhy přinášejí. Jsou to hospodářské škody, změna ekosystému, ohrožení biodiverzity a možný přenos zoonotických onemocnění. Konkrétním zájmovým objektem byla nutrie říční (Myocastor coypus) jakožto invazní druh na území České republiky. Provedena byla sumarizace dosud zaznamenaných parazitů nutrie říční v areálu jejího původního rozšíření (Jižní Amerika) a v Evropě, a následné srovnání parazitofauny obou oblastí. V rámci praktické části práce bylo zkoumáno 43 nutrií z různých oblastí v rámci povodí Moravy. Při jejich pitvě bylo nalezeno 6 druhů parazitů – Strongyloides myopotami, Trichuris myocastoris, Trichostrongylus sp., Echinostoma revolutum, blíže neurčen zástupce čeledi Psilostomidae a zoonotická tasemnice Echinococcus multilocularis. Nejčastěji zastoupeným parazitem byl Strongyloides myopotami (prevalence 100 %). Nalezení paraziti byli změřeni a fotograficky zdokumentováni. U druhů Strongyloides myopotami, Trichuris myocastoris a Trichostrongylus sp. byla provedena fylogenetická analýza postavená na úsecích ribozomální DNA.

Abstract:

The proposed thesis investigate the global problem of invasive species spread and the risks they pose. These include economic damage, ecosystem change, threat to biodiversity, and the possible transmission of zoonotic diseases. The study is focused on the semiaquatic rodent nutria (Myocastor coypus) which is an invasive species in the Czech Republic. The thesis includes summary of parasites of nutria in its native range (South America) and in Europe based on the previous studies, followed by a comparision of its parasite fauna in both areas. In the practical part of the study, 43 nutrias from different areas within the Morava basin were investigated and parasitologicaly examined. Their dissection recorded the presence of six parasite species – Strongyloides myopotami, Trichuris myocastoris, Trichostrongylus sp., Echinostoma revolutum, an unspecified representative of the family Psilostomidae, and zoonotic cestode Echinococcus multilocularis. Strongyloides myopotami exhibited the highest prevalence among collected parasites (100 %). The collected parasites were measured and photographically documented. Phylogenetic analyses based on the ribosomal DNA sequences were performed for Strongyloides myopotami, Trichuris myocastoris and Trichostrongylus sp.
